try installing proper drivers for the AUDIO CARD! the orange led only indicates the HTK HOTKEYdrivers are working properly, it does NOT says a thing about audio card drivers! so i suggest you to install proper drivers for audio playback!
Go to your "Start" menu at the bottom, left of your computer's desktop.
Select "Control Panel" from the menus. Select "Sounds and Audio Devices"
in the Control Panel.
Look at the settings under the "Volume" tab. Make sure the
slider is not turned down. If it is all the way to the left, you need to
move it more to the right. Make sure the "Mute" button is not checked.
Go to the "Audio" tab. There you will see "Audio Playback"
with a drop-down box. Make sure it is set to your computer's sound card.
For example, if your computer uses Sigma Tel Audio, make sure that is

Test your speakers on another computer before you decide if
they are broken. The input jack on your computer might be the problem.
It maybe was a problem on the driver of your laptop. Make sure to install the drivers that were supplied by the manufacturer. Some drivers also need to be compatible with your operating system. For example, Windows XP has a different driver than that of Windows Vista, whereas Windows 7 comes preinstalled with all the drivers so you do not need to install any driver anymore.
If you cannot hear the sound you have recorded. Make sure that the sound you record generates the visual pattern. This confirms that at least your microphone is working.
In any of the upper case your audio driver must be install and your audio hardware must be in working order. You can check this in Windows Device Manager. To go to device manager you right click "My Computer" in XP and In Windows Vista and Windows 7 its "Computer. After right clicking it select Manage and on the left pane select the Device Manager and you will see the list of devices and their installed drivers. Make sure all the audio devices and there drivers are not showing any errors.
Make sure that you speakers are not mute. If you take a look at the bottom right corner of your computer screen you will see a speaker icon.make sure there is no "X" or any other RED signs on them which represents mute states.
Similarly check other related settings. Go control panel after going to the start menu and look for the "Sound" icon and make sure there is not anything suspicious.
If all the above is fine and okay than look for any problems in your speakers that are open or if you are wearing them as Headphones or earphones and try to replace them to test them. Maybe the sound is coming but the speakers might be faulty make sure you increase the volume of the speakers when you hear any recordings.
Make sure the speakers are okay by listening to music or movie that you might get free from internet or in Disk collections. This is the way you can easily detect the problem.
If you can hear sound from music and movies than your microphone hardware might be faulty.
go to the windows start button - control panel - sound.
Then take a look a the settings, with the earphones plugged in and out.
Maybe, you have to deactivate the normal sound system, while the earphones are plugged in.
Or maybe you see some settings there to control the outgoing sound.
Check when you plug in the headphone the laptop speakers get off or not also see the audio configuration under control panel sound that you choose digital sound or its having channels system like 5.1 or 7.1 channels you have to configure it to headphone
