Question about GE DBVH512EFWW Dryer
My dryer runs and heats, but there is a thumping sound when the drum turns. I took the top cover off and the belt looks okay at first glance. (1) What else should I look for on the belt to establish if it is bad? (2) What else could be wrong with the dryer? Could it be a clogged exhaust making the thumping sound? (3) Also, could you direct me to a service manual to repair this myself? The dryer manual is not comprehensive and only provides very general information. (4) Does this seem like a serious problem? Guide me how to open, check and replace the belt?
To access these dryers you open the door and look up at the 12 oclock
position and their will either be 2 or 4 screws holding down the top.
These must be removed and then you can get the top to come up(or off on
newer models). Once you have the top up you can get to the screws which
hold the front on (2). Then you simply remove the front and get it out
of your way. On these dryers there is a friendly rear hatch to help you
replace the idler. As far as the thump tha could be from anything. Once you get the dryer apart you should be able to locate and remedy the problem.
