Question about Zebra TLP 2844-Z Thermal Label Printer
I have a 2005 Zebra TLP2844 printer which is new but I can not get it to work. It won't even print a test page. It ends up with a red blinking light no matter what I try. I have made sure the lid is closed tightly, re-loaded the labels several times, powered down, turned it on while holding the button but it always ends up the same. It will give me a double blinking green light when I first load the labels but if I push the button it will advance the label around an inch and stop with a blinking red light. I can push it again and get the same result. When I push it a third time, the label will advance to the next seam between labels and stay green until I press it one more time which it goes back to the blinking red. Any ideas?
Part # 284Z-10300-0001 (new old stock?)
1: Is it a TLP2844 or a TLP2844Z.
Operationally they are completely different printers. TLP2844 uses ELP (Eltron Programming Language. but TLP2844Z uses ZPL (Zebra Programming Language). You need to calibrate the printer to the labels.
If its a TLP2844. Load media. Connect power.
Hold down feed key, power on, count one, two, release feed key. The printer will go through a calibtation routine and print config label. IMPORTANT - When it prints this label you must press the feed key and see the message OUT OF DUMP. Your printer will now be calibrated. Check this by hitting the feed key a few times and printer will feed one label each time feed is hit.
If its a TLP2844z.
Load media. Turn printer on and wait for green light (Approx 1 minute)
Press feed key and keep it pressed until green light blinks once, then twice, now release feed key.

Firstly make sure the ribbon is installed correctly. Secondly press and hold the Green Feed light until it flashes 4 times and let go, it will then reset to the factory defaults and do a calibaration.
