How to remove LG LST-4100A

Hey guys,

Got an LG LCD donated to me and it has a LST-4100A attached to it. I want to remove it (if possible) so I can have normal functionality to all of the other inputs without the extra unit attached. Anyone know how to do this. I do have the remote if that is needed.

Thanks!

Thanks Tom for the quick reply.  It is connected to the RS232 service jack on the TV and via what looks like a DB9.  I tried just disconnecting it before but then the tv, when turned off then on, loses all functionality.  I believe the LG is in a specific mode that requires the LST for now.  It needs to be told not to look for the LST but that is something I don't know how to do.

I talked to an A/V specialist, referred by a friend, and was able to reset the box.  In doing so, I got back the functionality to all of my sources.  He did warn me that if we play around with the codes (to reset the TV so it isn't dependant on the LST), it is possible to mess up the TV's software.  He also said that for the 3 cents/month of the electricity used, it is not worth the risk.  I believe I just held down the 2 buttons on the top of the box (reset & update) at the same time and was good to go.  Thanks again!

Thanks guys for the suggestions. I actually sold the TV recently and didn't get to apply your suggestions but because the both of you suggested similar actions, I gave you both a FixYa assuming it would work.

To remove the LST-4100A commercial control interface from the television you need to follow the commands below.

1. Power on television.
2. Press and hold "MENU" for 10-15 seconds.
3. Quickly press "2-6-6-3" and then press "ENTER"

If you have done everything properly, it will bring up a small menu in the top left hand corner of the television. Kind of a hidden menu.

4. Arrow down to the menu option that says "D Box" and turn the option to "OFF".

Now turn off television and completely disconnect the LST-4100A. In fact, throw it away. In the trash is where it belongs.

Your television will now operate like a normal television purchased from a big box store. You should run an automatic programming setup for grins upon completing.

Enjoy your new NON-commercial lcd television.

Forgot to mention. If you would like to keep the LST-4100A box on the back of the television you can access the "installer menu" by using the following sequence.

    1. Press the "MENU" button repeatedly (press... press...press... etc.) until the on screen menu stops responding.

    2. Enter "9-8-7-6" for the generic password.

You will now have access to the installers menu. This will allow you to program channels, turn on and off different inputs....etc.

Here is the manual for the installers menu.

    Enjoy

I don't know if you figured it out yet but the easist way to do away with the box is to remove all cables. Then hold the menu button down until the menu dissappears, enter 2663 and press enter. A small menu box will appear in the left corner. Go down to where it says D box, switch this to off and now the TV will do whatever a residential model does

LG-4100A controler box problem. i can access the installer menu without issue as outlined on page 19 of 22lq630h-commercial-mode-setup-guide.pdf. however the DBOX option is NOT in that menu on a LG 42PX3DBV. is there a second hidden menu beside the one covered in the above mentioned pdf? (which also makes no mention of a DBOX option)

It isn't an option on a LG32LX4DCS either. I too am looking for a solution.

I was having this same problem, in which the remote controls wouldn't work without the control box connected, but the factory reset wouldn't work with the box connected.

Here is what worked for me:

LG 32LX4DCS TVs with attached LG LST-4100A control box.

1. On the LST-4100A box, there is a black, removable card with an F-connector (Cable In) and a RJ-11 (Data). Unscrew the two retaining screws and remove this card. There is an antenna-type connector on the inside that will need to be disconnected from the card.

2. Connect the control box to the TV via the serial cable (Display Control).

3. Plug in power cables to TV and control box. Turn on TV.

4. There are two lights on the control box. Make sure the "Power" light is on solid and the "Status" light is flashing quickly. If not, cycle power on both the TV and the control box.

5. Press "Menu" and hold the button until the menu disappears.

6. Quickly, press "2 6 6 3" then press "Enter". A small menu should open in the upper left.

7. Scroll down to "DBox". Change to "Off". TV will restart.

8. Disconnect the serial cable from the TV. The remote controls should now work normally with the control box disconnected.

I was having the same problem with a unit that had the Control Box attached with "Cable Security Sleeves" -- those little rotating metal thingies that prevent you from unhooking the F-connectors.

The 3-3-2-6 trick worked like a charm. I hooked up a digital antenna to the Cable In port on the controller box, and now I don't have to remove the evul controller box.

BTW, LG Commercial Support told me the above was impossible to do.

If there is a lg lst-4100a conrol box attached to my hotel tv if i take it off will the tv work without it. Meaning will it power on at all?

You have to select a proper input, other than 'cable box'. There should be no other problem. it should work as normal TV. But, if you wish to select an other input, you should first release the Hotel mode, and set the TV to normal mode. If you have to make this selection, you might have to enter its service mode. This procedure might need some practical experience. So, contact any experienced service technician in this case.

Service mode entry, adjust and exit procedure to many popular brand TVs are given. Never forget to exit the service mode, after all adjustments have been done.
NB: Please read and understand well, the instructions to enter the service mode, before you begin. Be very careful. Note how to "EXIT" the service mode; after entering and adjusting data. This is very important.

If i use a universal remote can i unprogram a lg lst-4100a contol box from a lg 32lx3dc tv

Set-up (Programming) procedure is too much to type in here, and is not practical and it will differ brand-to-brand remote controls. If you wish to get more; check the sites linked here. It has set-up code list & set-up procedure to many popular brand remote controls. The site has general set-up codes to check with TVs and other devices are given, in the order of the 'device's brand name list' in alphabetical order. Set-up code list to many brand remote controls also is given. Pull up older posts. Search the sites by type in the brand name to your device in its search box at the top right part of the display window. It will help you to find the document easily.

Programming Notes
• If your device does not respond to the remote after trying all codes listed or your brand is not listed in the code list, use the Auto Code Search method to program your remote.
• Sometimes the first code that "works" with your device may operate only a few functions of your device. There may be another code in the code list that performs more functions. Try other codes from the code list for more functionality.
This is a trial and error procedure; and quiet time consuming. You might have to check different codes said for your device.

You may be able to overcome this problem by bringing up the menu by using the TV's own buttons. Most TV's can be tuned and accessed through this method. Also have you taken the batteries out of your remote control, press all of the buttons on it, this can at times discharge any capacitors that hold a charge (electricity), which, unless fully discharged keeps the unit as it was last used. Once you have done this, replace the batteries and try using the unit as normal. Good Luck. George

I received an LG 32LX4DC Flat Panel Television from a hotel. It came with a control box LG LST-4100A. I saw on fixya.com the method to access the installer menu. However, I could not get the hidden menu...

Just an FYI if anyone is having this same problem a factory reset will solve the issue.Follow the above directions... "1. Press MENU repeatedly till it seems to not respond. 2. Enter 2-6-6-3 on the remote then Enter 3. At the top, it says ENTER PASSWORD 0000 4. Enter 9-8-7-6 then Enter 5. Installer Menu comes up scroll through the options until you see "factory reset" change the value from a 0 to a 1 with the arrow keys and then power the TV off. When you turn it back on it should be reset to factory defaults.
