If you are talking about the  BIOS settings, go into the setup routine  and change the settings to the default or safe settings and then save them. If you are refering to software go to the Windows  RESTORE and restore your computer to the earliers date that it will alow you to do. If your computer came with a restore disk, or restore function Run it.  I hope this helps.

According to the manual for your model from HP, located at:
http://h10032.www1.hp.com/ctg/Manual/c03255541.pdf in Chapter 3, page 10, you can press the F11 key when your computer first starts up to enter into "System Recovery."

Make sure you have a backup of everything you want off the computer, prior to erasing it.

I forgot my password on my desk top computer its an older gateway running windowsxp. how do I reset my password or restore the computer to factory settings?

Just take out its bios battery [back-up lithium battery; disc type]; thus disable the bios memory. The re-insert the battery. All bios settings will be lost, but no data loss will occur. You have to re-set the bios settings, by holding F1 button during startup.

Why won't my COMPAQ PRESARIO SR2032X desk top

Please turn off the computer, start hitting F8 at the start-up and then choose last known good configuration. If this does not work, choose Safe mode options.
If still does not work, please try to restore the computer to factory settings. You can try to hit F11 or F10 at the startup to initiate recovery.
If not working, please tell me what error message you get on the screen.

Have you tried booting in safe mode? Turn off computer, then turn it on and immediately hit the F8 key repeatedly until you see Safe Mode as an option. Take the safe mode option. Once it boots up all the way in safe mode see if you can go to Start/Programs and look for eRecovery to restore back to factory settings. If not, you should be able to get it back to factory settings in spite of the error code. Boot your computer and and try the Alt+F10 key to get the factory setting started. Try Alt+F10 when you see the Acer Logo. If it doesn't work try it when you first turn on the system.

Bios setting problem

This happens because Windows is corrupted.

You need to start the computer with a windows install disk, or a factory recovery disk inside to reinstall the system.

Get a windows install disk and reinstall the system.
