Well,I've had my sansa e250 since christmas and it's given me a number of problems.
First off,for some strange reason my songs keep getting deleted and every time i try to replace them some strange files (which are currently taking up over half the memory) pop up.
Second, I can't delete those files. I've tried reformatting so many times i've lost countand it doesn't work.
Third, my sansa e250 won't go past the refreshing database screen ever since i last 'safely ejected' it from the computer.
I had a e260 and i thought i might share this with you. They got recalled, because ofa software malfunction. That might be what is wrong with yours, even though it's a different one it seemed to me like they were still getting the bugs out beause i upgraded to the e280 and i have to take it back too for software problems...

turning on to change modes is your problem. If it's completely dead you may need to replace it or refurbish it. Or if the battery is completely dead plug it in all day until you can get it to turn on. ONCE ON then you can worry about getting it to connect. Try this:
There are two connection settings in USB: MTP and MSC. For some reason MTP is the default, but it doesn't connect properly on all computers. Select MSC and plug the player in again, the computer will recognize sansa e250 but not show the driver just yet. It is installing recognition software (just basic drivers - nothing heavy) and it doesnt tell you what its doing until its complete. WAIT FOR IT. Once it is complete you will see both the sansa e250 and the removable memory slot in your "my computer" now you're good to go.
Try using Windows Media Player instead, and see if you get the same result. If it loads in Windows Media Player, then the problem is with WinAmp and not your Mp3 player. When you say it loads half-way, do you mean it loads half the songs and then shuts off? Is the Sansa running on low battery? WinAmp has some kind of update released in the past week - did you download the update, and then experience the problem? It's probably not this, because other users have had the same problem that you are reporting since at least Christmas 2007.
The following is an advice from another Sansa user, so I haven't been able to verify it myself: "I have to have WinAmp open and a song playing then connect my player and then it will work fine. If I just connect my player then start WinAmp it crashes"
If all of the above fails, reformat your player and start over from scratch. Let me know how everything works out - this is an issue that not even the Sansa website seems to have an answer for.
Yes, formatting will retain the interface and everything else necessary to run the device. It only removes what you have put on the unit. Also, format anytime you begin to have strange problems with the device that can't be explained...like songs that don't appear after you've transferred them.
you should try formating it. when you plug it into your computer...
go to my computer
right click on your mp3 player name under " devices with removable storage"
make sure nothing is checked.
and then press start. wait till its done, and it should work.
