Does it record when you are simultaneously watching a program? if yes, then recording circuits are OK. It is definitely a problem of settings. Try doing it again step by step. And before you program for timer recording, make sure that the VCR clock is set for correct time.

What is happening? Still not recording images, and only static 'fuzz'?
What about playback? Do tapes recorded elsewhere - Pre recorded ones, or friends' tapes play OK?
    I need this info also.

You have not mentioned the make and model number of the vcr. Any way the problem is due to end sensor or related circuit. End sensors are photo diods which you can check the shorting with a multy meter.

I can't find my manual. I need to hook it up so that I can record tv shows I like to watch when I am not home. But I didn't do it right and I am having trouble with the remote also.

You can download a manual from . Click on Customer Support and then Owner's Manual. Remote problems - first try new batteries then try a universal or other replacement remote, .

For problems with timed recording, make sure the clock is correctly set. If power goes out for more than 30 seconds, the clock will be incorrect and the timer information will be off. Insert a blank tape (or one you want to record over). Then press Menu and then go to Timer Programming. (Use the up/down arrows and then hit the right arrow button.) Set the frequency of recording followed by the day and start time of the programmed recording. Then set the end time of the recording. Next set the channel number. (with some set top boxes and TV connections, choose 3 or 4 depending on the way the setting of the RF output. Then set the channel on the set top box and leave the box on.) Then set the recording speed. Press T-set to lock in the program. If you want to watch a tape before the program starts, press T-set (turning off the timer light). Remember to press T-set afterwards to resume programmed recording. You can't record to DVDs.

I hope this helps.

DMR E55 timer recording won't work

Your recorder doesn´t have a digital tuner, let alone an HD one. You can record digital programs via your TV tuner if it gives a signal out. Connect your TV to AV1 or AV2 on your recorder and program the recorder to record from the one you chose. You must program the TV separately (I don´t know if this is possible on your TV) or leave it on and on the channel you want to record.

Make sure when you do the process two things: one, a blank tape or If it is a dvd recorder, a blank disk is inserted, in the tape make sure the tab that prevents recording is not broken. Two, before exit the timer recording menu, make sure that there is not a instruction that says "done" or "confirm" or any word meaning that all the steps went through.

Shows canceled?

Make sure u have signal on both tuners on the DVR ( check it in your set-up screen). both tuners should have the same siganl strength. Directv's DVRs, if installed correctly, give u the option of recording one channel and watch another, or recording 2 seperate channels( 2 tuners). If you are recording 2 seperate shows and u change the channel one of your recordings will cancel .

Static cling with 3 quarter inch tape

Ngotsa, Static is NOT the reason for your fuzzy audio. Old tapes tend to deteriorate because of 1.) the way they were stored (damp, humid, and extremes in temperature), or in, or near an electric field (motor, refrigerator, TV) 2.) the lubrication (which is on all tapes) has evaporated - making good tape to head contact impossible) or 3.) the oxide (the actually tape coating) had deteriorated. As far as the Black Backing, the black backing on your newer tapes IS there to prevent static, but mainly for static build-uop during high speed rewind; if it wasn''t there, you'd actually see sparks, and you'd ocassional zaps in the sound (not overall fuzziness).
