Sorry to inform you, but you need to have the processor or "brain' replaced. Mine did that while it was still under warranty and toshiba took care of ir qujickly and free of charge. Toshiba customer service is excellent. Give them a call. also I recall hearing about a defective part that Toshiba will replace free of charge. but give them a call and see what they will do for you.

I think that processor is called the light engine. I came here because i have a new problem now. it made a pop sound and the picture went out. If I have any more problems with this thing I'm pitching it in the trash.

Lines across bottom of screen

are they blinking lines or just straight across from one side to the other blinking lines is the dlp chip going ( they cost a bit to replace)
no blinking then the mirror could of moved in the back of the tv, happens if the tv is not on level ground. or the dlp board needs adjustment ( happens over time as the plastic moves when hot to cold all the time)

Black lines in tv

Most likely there are electrolytic capacitors in the power supply, video path, and scan amplifiers that are starting to fail from age. This is common in many of these sets. In consideration of the age of the set, this may not be worth having it serviced.

Most likely bad convergence amplifiers. They are soldered in components. They can become intimentent and the lines come and go, usually red or blue.

Panasonic PT53wx42f screen problem

if the tv was moved drastically and shaking it or it was dropped by accident there are two chances to have a problem:
  1. the tv suffer a severe miss of adjustment
  2. some problem in the printed circuit board (a little crack in the PCB or solder joins broken
in any sense a visual inspection could determine the solution in the bench.

Convergence

Do not adjust any knobs as instucted in the previous thread if you TV have a convergence problem. Doing so will only make things worse. The blog does however show you how to fix other common problems with these sets.

Here are some of the most common symptoms and example photos of a convergence problem

  • Screen looks 3D
  • Colors don't line up
  • One or more colors can't be adjusted when using the convergence menu.
  • Screen is bowed or warped.

Here is a quick test....

Using your original remote go-to the tv settings then goto the convergence section.

Try to adjust the red and then the blue convergence.

You should be able to move them up, down, left, and right.

If you can't move them in all directions your convergence chips are bad and should be replaced. This is a common problem.

You need to replace the convergence chips and convergence resistors. Check the site www.TvRepairKits.com. They have put together a kits for most models. If you don't see a kit for your set send them a quick note and they will put one together for you. Their kits include a photo instruction guide, original OEM Sanyo STK chips, convergence resistors, pico fuses, etc.
