Did you check continuity to ground with each speaker wire?
Have it bench tested at a local shop to eliminate or identify the unit as being at fault.

I turn on home theater receiver and it says,"check sp wires",then it shuts off

You have some speaker wires crossed or shorted.
inspect the speaker wires for shorting (cat/dog /mouse chewed em up?).
You can also disconnect the speaker wires and plug them back in one at a time to locate the shorted one , should you be unable to determine which wire is shorted.

My amp powers up then starts blinking says short

Hello
As the set informs you, there is a short circuit somewhere. If it is fitted in car, check all the speaker wirings. If any of the speaker wire's inulation gets bursted and shorts with car's body, the sets' micrcomputer will sense it and it will consider it to ba a short circuit. Check all the wiring intvidually with the help of a multimeter. If there is no short found in wirings, the output IC inside the car stereo is shorted, and should be replaced. disconnect all the output from the device and switch it ON. If it again displays 'short' make sure that the IC has damaged. If it displays no short, check the output wirings to the speaker.OK.

I have kenwood car stereo.it shows protect mode..soo what is the main problem? wand what is the solution? pls help

Hi, the unit enters protect mode when the output impedance is too low causing the power transistors to draw too much current. A short may be internal or external to the head unit. The thing to do is first disconnect the speakers to see if the unit will come out of protect. If this does not work, the short is internal, and the head unit must be repaired or replaced. If disconnecting the speakers DOES resolve the short, then the speakers and wiring must be checked for a short. The easiest way to do this is to use an ohmmeter at the speaker connector. Check the impedance of each pair of speaker wires. The impedance should be between 4-8 ohms. Anything less than 4 ohms may cause the unit to protect, depending on the exact design of the unit. If you find any wire pairs to have less resistance than the others, access the speaker to check the impedance of the speaker alone. If the speaker has an impedance of 4-8 ohms, the problem is a shorted wire. Please let me know if you have questions, and thanks for using FixYa.

When I push ON button I see in display " protect" mode...

It could be a short in your speaker wire or the crossover in your speakers.

1) Turn off your unit and disconnect your speaker wires at the amp, if the protect is no longer displayed when the unit is turned back on, check the connections on the speakers. If you do not visually see a short on the speaker wire connection, turn off the unit and disconnect the wires at the speaker and isolate them so they do not touch then connect the speaker wires at the amp. Turn on the amp and see if the protect is on. If it is on, the wire has a short somewhere in the line. If the protect is off then suspect the speaker has a short in the voice coil or crossover.

2) If the protect is still on after you disconnect the speaker wires at the amp, it could be the power IC in the amp is shorted and needs to be replaced.

Kenwood kvt-719dvd plays dvd but wont show picture

It is probably that the parking safety wire wasn't hooked up properly, or at all. Most in dash dvd players are equipped with a motion safety device to prohibit the driver from viewing movies and such on the monitor while the vehicle is in motion. The wire for this needs to be hooked to the parking brake light wiring. This will ensure that when the parking brake is on, the dvd can sense that the vehicle is stopped, and should therefore show the image.

I turn on my stereo and the receiver says protect why

your speaker wires are touching if the plus or minus or (red and black wires) are touching it can blow the amp this is a protection. Check all the speaker wires on the back and makes sure they are not touching.

When my volume is set above a certain level it shorts and it isn't set high at all.  It is a yamaha rx-v590 receiver, any idea of the issue?

A speaker wire or a speaker may be shorted.

If the positive wire is touching the ground wire anywhere in your system, this will occur.

Run the speaker "test" to hear all speakers. If one does not sound off, that is probably your shorted wire our bad speaker. Check for a bad splice, back of receiver speaker output, speaker input, or wire shorted on tack strip under carpet, etc.

If this does not help, you may have a shorted speaker channel in the receiver itself.

This goes for most all receivers that are not vintage in age.
