Re: Failure to align cartidge after inserting new one
It could well be that your scanner function is broken but hoepfully it is just malfunctioning, I would recommend trying to print a troubleshooting page from the system's menu to see if it lists any error codes regarding the scanner.

This means one of the cartridges is defective, they cant align if they cant print. What i did to fix this problem is insert 2 working cartridges and get it to align properly, even if they are low on ink, then lift the cover and the cartridges will move to the center. When this happens pull the power cable out, then insert the full non functioning cartridge. Plug the power cable back in. I tried this with a color cartridge, the color cartridge was non functioning but i was able to print in black. Basically you align the cartridges and then swap them so the printer thinks they are still aligned. The color still doesnt work and it is probably a defective color cartridge.
Follow the instructions below to install the print cartridges for the first time.

Make sure you have letter or A4 unused plain white paper loaded in the input tray.
Press OK. The product prints an alignment page.
Place the alignment page print-side down on the scanner glass.
Press OK to scan the alignment page. When the scan finishes, the alignment is complete.
If you have colored paper loaded in the input tray when you align the cartridges, the alignment will fail. Load unused plain white paper into the inputtray, and then try the alignment again.

1 - you may have bad cartridges (usually the color)...when the machine does an alignment it looks for specific marks on the paper...ie..green check marks before each line etc...if the correct marks are not there you will get an alignment failure...if the green check marks are there etc then you have a different problem...first replace color cartridge with a HP Brand cartridge
2- spot sensor on the side of carriage is not working...this is the little blue/green light that comes on during alignment. Its what reads the markings on paper so if the markings are correctly there and you still get this error then the spot sensor needs to be replaced. Simple fix that u can do. We sell the spot sensor for $15
