I am trying to connect my Sony Surround sound system to my AVOL 32"(just bought at the BX in Germany), but when I connect my RCA White and Red cable from System to TV all I get is faint whispers with a static background. I tried switching functions to the radio to test the sound and it works very well (almost blew the out the speakers cause I forgot to turn down the sound). Someone mentioned that these tv's don't have output jacks??? How can I get my System to push out the sound from the TV? Raymond [email protected]

Not entirely sure what the problem is. You should have Two RCA outputs (left and right) from the TV. These plug into the surround decoder, it decodes the dolby and provides 4 or more outputs for speakers. If I have misunderstood you then please comment before rating badly

No, that's not going to work. Digital output is just that....Digital. Your trying to send a digital into analog....won't work. Your tv don't have red and white audio out. That's what you hook to, but it still wouldn't be 5.1. Your out of luck my friend. The ONLY way you'll get 5.1 out of that T.V. is to get a 5.1 reciever with CO-AX digital input...the SAME as whats on your T.V. You can only hook-up sound to your X-FI with the line in jack using a y-connector and 1/8" stereo plug....and it won't ever be 5.1. It can't that way. Only way to get 5.1 to work on the blaster is with the tosh-link optical input cable. This too is digital, but uses optics to send it. Remember, you are playing with 2 different formats. Analog with your white/red thing you made and then digital. Digital using co-ax or optical tosh-link. Completely different.....as you now know.

you need an optical cable which it's sort of mentioned in the manual, but because of the multitude of possible ways to connect the TV to the sound surround, I did not figure out either.
I got my optical cable at BestBuy for about $45.00

The way to turn off the tv speakers is to press the menu button scroll to the option category navigate to output select and choose variable. However just turning off the tv speakers will not cause the surround sound system to work with this television. Connecting the red and white composite audio cables to the television's OUTPUT will get you stereo sound. Some people opt to keep the tv's speakers turned on when doing this. In order to get the digital optical out to work between the television and the surround sound system you will have to be using input tv. You will have to be using the television's tuner with digital cable no cable box or with an over the air antenna. Did you make sure you connected the red and white cable to the surround sound aux or any composite input and choose the right function on it?
