I have the same problem- water seems to come from the top of the frig. and drips down- steady dripping when defrost cycle.

water drips from the fridge roof, collecting on shelves, on top of food, inside krisper drawers, etc.

So the refrigerator is leaking down the back, pooling water on the shelves and under the crisper bins. I squirted hot water around the area that was frozen over, but the rest of the mechanism is under a large piece that is screwed into place (my fridge is from 1999.) Should I unscrew the entire unit? I have not found the tray that is mentioned that collects water and I am guessing it is under that plastic cover.....

Whirlpool upright freezer-model EEV151N is running but not keeping things frozen inside. Making a whirring noise louder than usual. It's at least 24 years old.

Refrigerator leaking

this means that when the refrig goes into defrost depending on the age either the hole for the water to drain out after defrosting cycle is plugged and needs to be thawed out and blown out with compressed air of if the water drains out under the crisper droor or behind the crispers the drain is plugged there. it could also be a drain heater problem. dont know age of refrig.

water is coming from the defrost cycle and is not making it to the drain pan on the bottom. try cleaning the coils and if you can locate the drain that goes to the pan and blow in it this will clear it out. thank you.

Water comes off somewhere in the bottom of my fridge. what could have caused it?

When your refrig goes into defrost , the water runs down the back of the refrig ( inside ) and out to the drip pan thru a drain hole under the crispers . If water is under the crispers , remove the crispers and you should see a " cap " covering the drain hole . Sometimes crud will cover the slots where the water is supposed to drain , causing water to pool under the crispers . Just remove this cap , clean , and reinstall .

Water collecting under crispers

Probably a plugged drain.

Insert it in the drain in the bottom and squeeze it cleaning the drain. Several applications will solve the problem, and do not forget the refrigerator side as well.

Good Luck,

The drain line that comes through the casing may be plugged or the trap at the bottom of the hose where it drains into the drain pan under the refrigerator may be plugged. If water is freezing it is because it is being held back by a restriction.
