Question about Maytag MTF2155GRW Top Freezer Refrigerator

1 Answer

Frig. and Freezer not cooling. Clicking sounds heard every 2 mins

Refrigerator and freezer are not getting cold any more. Water is leaking from the bottom front of the top and bottom doors. I hear the compressor click on for about (2) secs then click back off. This cycle continues every 2 mins. The refrigerator is just under 5 years old. I had always heard a rattling sound like a fan, but thought it was just normal sound of the unit. However, today the sound was continuous and that's when I notice the small puddle of water in front. After pulling the frig out and taking the lower cardboard insulation cover off, I found the fan had completely came of the spindle and the sound I had been hearing was the spindle rubbing on one of the fan blades. the fan had not been cooling anything. I fix the problem with a rubber washer and a lock nut. Now I fear it has done damage to the compressor and the "clicking" sound is a load from a seized up compressor. Please tell me its not that!!! Help!

My suspicions were confirmed by a factory repairman. I have a bad compressor, which he said was very unusual for that model. And you are right, it is still under warranty, so I am only out a service call charge of $70.00. I only paid $570.00 for the frig. and it would have cost me $650.00 to fix it if it was out of warranty. Thank God for beautiful timing!!! I do have to find a rental for the holidays coming up, but that's small potatos given what it might have been. Just the same, thanks again for your comments.

    Merry Christmas!

Sure sounds as if it is def a compressor overheating, now that the compressoe will be cooled it should work , but your right damage may be already done, the good news if any is that you should be covered under 5yr manufactures warr for compressor

The top of the freezer part is getting cold but the bottom of the Refrigerator part is not getting cold. The Refrigerator is only 10-11 months old ; what is wrong?

you need to check and see if the fan in the back of the freezer compartment is running. when the fan is not running the cold air will not be passed to the refrigerator compartment. open the freezer door and turn the unit to its coldest setting until the compressor kicks in then listen to hear the fan in the freezer compartment.

Frdge not getting cold

Since your unit will have only one compressor, the cooled air must be circulated via a fan that distributes the air between the two compartments and this has probably died. This allows the cooled air to simply fall downward. When you can hear the compressor running, hold your fingers in front of the vents in the refrigerator compartment to see if you can feel any air stream.

Kenmore elite 596 73503201 no cooling in top compartment

if the freezer is getting cold the problem is due to the cold air from the freezer not getting into the refrigerator. There are several things that can cause this problem. The coils in the freezer icing up and not defrosting properly is one of the things that can cause the refrigerator not to get cold enough. Another problem is the fan that blows the cold air from the freezer compartment into the refrigerator, not working. When the compressor is running open the refrigerator's door and push the switch that makes the light go out. You should hear the fan blowing the cold air from the freezer into the refrigerator, when this switch is pushed in. If the fan is working then you will need to find what is blocking the air flow. Iced up coils are a common problem. The icing problem can be due to a defective defrost timer or something defective in the defrost circuit. Click here for more information. Check for these problems and let me know what you have found.

Water leaking underneath refrigerator/water freezing in bottom of freezer

I'm dealing with the same problem right now with the same refrigerator. The cold water tank (for the front dispenser) has a hole in it that leaks every time someone dispenses water from the front door. You will find the water tank behind the top slide-out drawer in the fridge. The leaked water flows down one of the water tubes through a hole in the bottom of the fridge and onto the floor. I'll bet you have the same problem. Good Luck.
