Toshiba sattelite c660 restart

Hi, after having some occasions when this computer would not start, solved by pressing F8 when booting, I created the 3 no. DVD reboot disks and everything was fine for a few days. I ran Anti virus checks and quaranteened somethings that were on there. Ok I thought, maybe that was the problem. Now after a few more days of normal operation it does not switch on. The fan runs and green LED comes on for 2 secs thenboth go off again. Pressing F2, F8, F10 F12 and zero while starting dont make a difference. Reboot disks make no difference. Just starts for 2 seconds, fan and LED but black screen, then off again. AC power is connected and LEd for it is green. Any idea what I should try next ?

Thanks to all of you, i am going to try a third party reboot programme to see if I can at least get the screen to start, then try to get into the BIOS. I will let you know how that goes.

Richard, I do not have windows XP discs. It is running on windows 7. I tried Kaspersky rescue cd download:http://majorgeeks.com/downloadget.php?id... and the DVD starts but then after 1 to 2 seconds it powers off again, no change

Try to access the BIOS screen, as check for the hardware helth and connection status.1) Black screen shows fault in RAM check he slot settings or other RAM.
2) If device shuts down itself in 2 seconds as you said, there might be a fault with the mother board or SMPS circuit which is not at related to any quarantined file by your AV.

Locked keybroad toshiba satellite C660

Try booting in safe mode and see if the keyboard is locked. Maybe the keyboard is bad.

Turn off the computer, then hit the power button to turn itback on and immediately start hitting the F8 key repeatedly until you see SAFEMODE. Take the Safe Mode option and let it boot up. Safe Mode will lookdifferent to you, the screen will be darker and the icons bigger, this isnormal.

Hi icsisayanir,

Follow the instruction below to help you restore your laptop to the factory settings.

1) Turn on the computer.

2) As the computer starts, press 'F8' on the keyboard until the Advanced Boot Options menu appears on the screen.

NOTE: You must press 'F8' before the Windows logo appears on the screen. If you press 'F8' after the Windows logo appears on the screen, the Advanced Boot Options menu will not appear on the screen.

Someone have put a password on my hdd,so I can't boot into windows.can anyone help me

you did not stated where, is this on your computer? on the darddrive? on the operating system?

removing password from computer or harddrive is beyond scope of this forum. if password is on windows xp matter is relatively simple.

1. boot computer in safe mode (pressing f8 key during startup will give you choice)
2. log in as administrator
3. press "start"
4. select "control panel"
5. select "users"
6 . remove password
7. restart computer and use normally

if this do not work, find on the net any of free available password removal programs, create self-boot floppy or cd with program, follow instructions.
