You have two options...

1. Try bringing the laptop closer to the router.
2. Buy a wireless N Router to better distance.

Is there a wireless key somewhere

The wireless WIFI internet key is decided by your ROUTER not your laptop. If your internet connection is indeed by wireless and not by ethernet cable, you will need to find the router key, from your internet provider, guardian or if you are desperate, find the reset key on your router to reset the passkey to the factory default which will be shown on a sticky label on the router or in its manual. Punch this into the windows dialog box when required. Good Luck.

My lenovo keeps on disconnecting for the internet

Troubleshooting your wireless connection via your Lenovo computer is not a task that requires familiarity with wireless networks or a vast level of computer troubleshooting knowledge.

You can repair Lenovo wireless problems ranging from browser setting errors to hardware connection issues and the only item you will need on hand is the owner's manual that was shipped with your router.

You will not require any additional devices or tools and should not have to resort to the expensive aid of a technician.

Launch the web browser you normally operate and check the "Work Offline" settings.

Click on the top toolbar where it says "File" and scroll down to where it says "Work Offline."

Ensure this selection is not checked, otherwise it will impede the operation of your wireless connection.

Click on this option to uncheck it.

Look over the connection made between your modem and wireless router.

Both devices have an Ethernet port on the rear.

It looks like an oversized telephone cord port. If these ports are not occupied by an Ethernet cable, connect one end of the cable to each device.

This connection cannot be loose.

Check your records for the password to your Lenovo wireless setup if you have a secured connection.

(A secured connection is recommended).

If you cannot find your password in your records, you will need to reset it.

Find the manual that shipped with your router and extract two important pieces of information. The first is the special web address the manufacturer provided for you to set up your router's settings; the second is the default password for your router.

Enter the web address from the manual into the web browser and click "Enter."

When prompted, input the default password from the wireless router.

Choose a new password for your wireless connection now that you have access to the settings.

Additionally, ensure the kind of wireless security you are using is "WPA." "WEP" is another available option, but it is an older encryption type and is technically inferior.

Click on the wireless network icon on the right side of the bottom toolbar in Windows on your Lenovo computer.

A list of wireless networks within range of your Lenovo computer will appear.

Click on the name of your wireless network and input your new password when prompted.

Look to the bottom right of your Windows desktop.

You should get a notification stating that you have successfully joined the network.

Hope this helps

I cannot enable my wireless adapter.

go to start, control panel, network and internet, then double click your network adaptor (your wifi router) click properties, write down your I.P address given to you on screen. then open internet explorer, and type that I.P address into the search bar and press enter. you should now have access to the main router settings. it could be your routers wifi setting is turned off. just go through the menu and look for it, the menu depends on the router so i cant say which menu to go to, but its normally under advanced tab. dont change anything else unless your sure you know what your doing!!

Unable to connect to internet despite connection confirmed

Improve the FixYa experience for everyone by voting.

I'm going to provide you with some generic approaches in an attempt to solve your problem.

First: Microsoft will perform a complete systems check for you in three clicks with their FixIt app. CLICK HERE and Microsoft will fix (repair) any Windows related problems that might be causing your problem.

Second: It is important to connect the modem to the router before you configure the modem in order to verify communication between them. If the cabling is incorrect, the rest of the process fails.

As a rule, external modems are built with a female data communications equipment (DCE) DB-25 port for connection to a controlling device such as a PC or a router

Connecting the modem using the network cable to the wrong port of the router (other than the WAN port) is easy to identify. You can easily troubleshoot the problem. In some cases, you may correctly setup the wireless router connection but you use the wrong cable type in connecting the modem to the router. Cross type UTP cable must be used in connecting the Ethernet port of the modem to the WAN port of the router. But this is not always true. Today, many types of wireless routers (and any LAN Switches) embedded their Ethernet ports (either WAN or LAN ports) with Auto-sensing type port (auto-MDIX LAN). It means that you can use either cross-type or straight-through-type network cable for the Ethernet port connections. The system will detect the cable type and automatically adjust the ports signal accordingly.

Pam;
If your laptop does not have a built in wireless adapter, you cannot use the router wireless. There are ports on the back of the router that you can connect your router to the laptop. The image below shows ports numbered 1-4. These are for the cable to your computer. The other port needs to be connected to the modem from your Internet service provider.

You will need a length of RJ45 Cat 5 cable from a local Best Buy or computer store. This may be difficult since you live in a more rural area. The cable can be purchase online from Frys.com. Measure the distance you want to use the laptop from the router and buy the length cable you need.

Buying a wireless notebook adapter will allow you to connect to the router without this cable, but the costs are higher. If you decide to buy one, get a USB modelmoz-screenshot-1.png.

it will be easier to use and choose. The router will also have to be setup to allow the connection to be made wirelessly. This can be found in the manual online at linksys.com.

Short operating range of wireless router

Hello Peter. I think you may have pinned down the problem within your post. British brick walls can be very solid - and thick - which may well be enough to degrade or block your wireless signal.

The first thing I would try is to move the router to as open and central a position as you can, and see if that helps. Adding a wireless LAN antenna to your router can also help boost a weak signal a little (these just replace an existing antenna on the router).

However, other options you may want to investigate include:

1) using a wireless repeater to boost the signal from your router;
2) a powerline networking system, such as Homeplug ;
3) installing a new router with a more powerful range

..or indeed, abandoning wireless altogether and using a wired connection!

I hope this helps you explore some options, and find a solution.

You can get connection if you find a wireless network available (in case that you don't have one at your house) or going to some cybercaffe with wireless network available
