There are two slots for RAM in the NC6220. The RAM is DDR2 and will take 1GB per slot. So first ensure you have the right RAM. Then turn the laptop over and:

  1. unplug and remove Battery from laptop
  2. Open memory compartment on bottom using Philips screw driver
  3. inset memory in open slot, if no open slot remove current memory by pinching metal clasp on side of memory
  4. Close compartment and power up you are off and running.

HP Compaq NC6220 No Power

Computer does not boot up The problem maybe the RAM, it is faulty or just needs reseating to make proper electrical contact.
Reseat the RAM and then boot up your laptop. If it still does not boot up then remove the RAM module/s and take them to your friendly computer repair shop and get them to test the RAM for you. Just like you sometimes need a mechanic to repair your car, sometimes you do need a technician to diagnose and identify the fault or faults on your computer. Not only does a good service technican have the experience to deal with this type of problem, they also have the equipment that allows them to look at things the average computer user can't see, and he has a collection of replacement parts that can be used to quickly test individual components on your computer.

Compaq nc6220 freezes during POST

Start in Safe Mode by pressing F8 during boot. Then...

Try disabling startup programs. Go to Start > Run (search in Win 7) and type MSConfig > Startup tab and uncheck anything that you don't want Windows to load automatically. It will make Windows boot faster and use less resources while running.

This just disables them in startup. Programs will still load, but when you initiate.

I have 1.49g ram and need an upgrade to 2g

The absolute best way is to go to www.crucial.com. The website will test your PC automatically and tell you exactly what you have and what kind of RAM you need. It will also offer the correct RAM for you on the same site, so you can do it all in one swoop..pls rate this solution. Once you receive the RAM, the Sticks are under the largest panel under your notebook. You can get the manual off of your manufacturers website to see exactly which screws to take out..but normall its under the largest plate..good luck..pls rate this solution

Hp nc6220 not starting up

You could have a motherboard problem or faulty RAM modules.
Try reseating the RAM modules and the boot up the laptop or get the RAM modules tested at your friendly computer shop.
If this doesn't work, most you have a nice pape weight.
You could then salvage the hard drive and insert it into an USB hard drive adapter case and use it as an external USB hard drive.
