The laptop should power up with the AC Adapter plugged in, if it works, and you want to be mobile, buy the battery pack for it. Battery's sell for around $75 in some places on-line.

Have a nice day!

My NEC Versa 3200 laptop screen now keeps on turning bright and then dim for few seconds and then back to bright. It does this few minutes after stat up. Any advice on this, thanks.

Generally a laptop will do that when it changes from AC power to battery power and visa versa. The tendancy is that either the power jack is going bad or the power cord has a broken wire near the head. Another reason laptops do that is if the AC adapter is not rated for the laptop it's being used for. Like, if you were to use a Netbook charger to charge a full size laptop, you will get the same problem. Check the charging cord for and abrasions or cuts and move the wire close to the head around in circles and see if it has a "sweet spot". Take the battery out and try starting the laptop on AC power only. If the problem is in the cord it should shut the laptop down or keep it from coming on. Either way, it's most likely one of those three things. Hope this helps

A questions are to be asked here. Does the laptop work when connected to AC power supply? If yes does the battery charge when connected to AC? If yes does this turning off happen when running on battery too? Please answer these questions so that I can help you with the diagnosis.

Packard bell versa e400 power only comes on when connected by the mains adapter. it has a battery in it but will not power up from it.please help

Hi there.
Basically the batteries dead and needs to be replaced!!
This is a common problem right across the board with all laptops, in some cases its the powerboard on the motherboard itself which won't charge any battery new or old.
To troubleshoot it you will need another battery to test with it.

Good luck
