Question about Acer Aspire™ T180 PC Desktop

1 Answer

Bios update I have an acer aspire T180. I just installed 2gigs of pc2 8500 ddr 533 and it only shows it as 400 so after some reading i flashed the bios. Now, I didnt realize that it would not flash if i did not turn off the bios protection in the bios when i first boot up but for whatever reason it still said it had updated it and needed to reboot. After it rebooted everything looked fine but no programs will work. no matter what I click on it just hangs. I cant even restart without pulling the plug. Any ideas as to what happened or how to fix it? Also, everything seems to work in safe mode. Thanks in advance.........Tim

the problem is, it wont open any programs. Anything I try to open just hangs. I cant even open task manager. I cant understand it. It was working fine and the bios chip protection was enabled in the setup when i tried to flash it so im not sure what could have changed

after you mentioned using restore i tried going in through safe mode and it worked. wow! I have been working on pcs for years and love em but damn they can make you crazy!! Thanks for the insight, i probably would have ended up doing a full format and reload instead of the easier obvious choice of restoring. Sometimes the easy choices are the hardest to see.

Roll it back, do a system restore to yesterday or whichever day it was ok. You can go nutso trying to correct a bios problem, if you can get aroundit with a simple restore. You sound like you know how it's done but just in case ill run it down for you in the intrest of saving time. Start, Programs, Accessories, System tools, System restore, good luck, Gym

I need to solvthe problem of my new install memory

According to the specs of this motherboard, it supports DDR 333/400 and DDR2 533/400 memory modules. It does not support DDR2 667 memory modules.
DDR 333/400 memory modules can be installed in the yellow slots, whereas DDR2 533/400 memory modules can be installed in the blue slots.
Only one type of memory modules (either DDR or DDR2) can be used. Mixing of different types of memory modules is not supported.

Bios update failed *flash*

Did you make copy of your original bios before flashing...if yes then reflash with your original.
If No then trying reflashing again making sure no power cuts, dont touch computer until flashing is complete.

No universal serial controller on my acer t180

Hi there. You need to update/install your chipset drivers.
This link will give you the chipset drivers:

http://www.acerpanam.com/synapse/forms/portal20.cfm?recordid=3703&formid=3394&website=AcerPanAm.com&siteid=7117&words=all&keywords=&areaid=2

You should notice that this driver is for XP. It should still work, but there is currently no chipset support for Vista on your product. If the above drivers don't work, then you can download the BIOS update from here:

http://www.acer.co.uk/acer/service.do?LanguageISOCtxParam=en&miu10einu24.current.attN2B2F2EEF=3734&sp=page15e&ctx2.c2att1=17&miu10ekcond13.attN2B2F2EEF=3734&CountryISOCtxParam=UK&ctx1.att21k=1&CRC=3713735360

You will need to select your specific pc (Desktop, Aspire, Aspire T180), then click on the BIOS tab, download and install.

Hope that works

Please help me in my RAM

Hi hope13,
you had it correct the first time. The DDR2 533MHz memory should be in the Blue slots. When using two DIMMS the motherboard requires the DDR2 533MHz memory be of the same size, brand & speed. For you to get a blue screen has nothing to do with you're memory. If there was a problem with you're memory, you bios would let you know by beeping a series of repeating beeps. Blue screens are usually caused by software & some hardware like you're hard drive. If you have data on you're hard drive & you do not want to erase it by re-installing windows fresh (That includes a must format), than I can suggest you download this software from this site. Click on the link.
http://www.ultimatebootcd.com/ Read what the software can do for you. If you do not want the software. Than break out you're windows CD & load it into you're CD-ROM drive. Boot the PC to the CD-ROM drive & in-stall windows. You're PC will function again when you finish installing windows & you're motherboard driver cd.

Good Luck!
I would have posted sooner but I though another was answering you're question.

If I can help you further, feel free to post.
Suggestions & comments welcomed.

Ram DDR2

Hi Terry, you're board, PC Chips P23G only supports a max memory of 2GB. Please check pg. 9 of your manual, Installing Memory Modules.
Please be noted you can NOT use DIMM DDRII 1~2 (DDR2 533/400) and DIMM DDR1~2 (DDR 400/333) simultaneously. Only use either DDR2(533/400) or DDR(400/333) memory modules! (You should check the spec's of the other board before inserting memory that may not be supported). (You can damage the memory)
Click the link listed below for you're PC Chips P23G board.
Suggest you save this link to you're favorites.

You will notice there is a fix for:
Patch code to fix REALTEK clock buffer sometimes couldn't detect DDR2.
Once there, click BIOS. Scrol down to the bottom of the page & read special notes. Than click the drop down menu & pick a download site. Creat a folder on you're desktop to store the download. Uncompress the .zip file. You will than have a folder named 070115 & a ROM file named 070115.ROM
This bios flash program requires you to use a floppy disk drive to flash the bios.
Follow the instruction at this link to flash you're bios.

If you find to hard to folow you can pick another from this google search site.
