Question about Dryers

1 Answer

Electric dryer intermittently doesn't heat

Intermittently, my RCA (made by GE) electric dryer doesn't heat. Sometimes changing the heat setting results in the dryer heating again, but sometimes not. Sometimes, it starts the drying cycle with heat, but then during the middle of the cycle, stops heating. My guesses are the temperature controller (or corroded connections), the thermostats (or corroded connections), or the heating elements themselves (or corroded connections), although my sense is that things like heating coils and thermostats are generally either good or bad, but don't intermittently work/not work. But, hey, y'all are the experts. Also, for GE dryers, how does one get to the thermostats and the heating coils? My old dryer (probably built close to 50 years ago), had a back panel that easily came off, revealing these parts, but the GE dryer doesn't seem to have a back panel that comes off.

If your dryer has a timer with quick connects which easily plug into it then you can possibly fix this problem. Yank both connects off the timer and remove the timer. Take the 2 motor screws off and remove the plate carefully. Clean the contacts on each leaf switch with a file. Put it back and retry. Sounds difficult but it isn't. Remember only the timer with the 2 quick connects.

GE Profile Harmony Electric dryer blower issue - how do I access?

You have to remove the control panel, dryer top, top heat shield, dryer front, front drum support, belt, and then the drum in that order to get to the heater. I have been working on these since they have been out and have never changed a heater in one, They just dont burn out. Unplug the dryer and take the access cover off where the power cord attaches to the dryer and make sure the wires are not loose or burnt.
