Question about Acer AL1916W 19" LCD Monitor
How do you go about removing back cover to repair board on the acer
Use the Acer AL1916v service guide as well as the Acer AL1916p service guide to disassemble the monitor. These can be found as PDF's using Google. Please note that disassemling the internal EMI perforated metal cover nor the electronics shown are for the 1916w model.
I fixed a 1916w that had a bad power board.(Delta A190E2). I replaced two blown 1000micro farad 25v dc electrolytic capacitors made by CapXon. Other people have had similar problems with this and other brands so do not use them as replacements.
To remove the back cover you must Remove the basse stand and the five screws holding it down. Now run your fingernail along between front and back covers. There are five catches on the top, four on the sides, and six on the bottom. Two of the cathes are at the corners of the plastic surrounding the control button module.
If you can get to the EMI shield you must first pull out the four connectors that go into the perforated EMI cover. I used my fingernails to gently pull them out by pulling and rocking these small white connectors. Do not pull on the wires. Next take out the four screws holding the EMI cover. You must also take out the two screws on the AC power connector as well as the two lugs on the video connector since they are screwed into the EMI cover.
Take the control panel circuit board out of its clip noting that the ribbon cable is lightly glued down in one spot. Rotate the ribbon cable and attached circuit board up vertically so as to clear the metal panel holding down the bottom of the EMI cover as you rotate this cover up 45+ degrees. Once clear of the EMI cover let the ribbon cable rest on this metal cover as you lift the EMI cover up vertically. Note the metal tabs coming up from below the two conectors. These must be kept below the EMI cover when it is replaced so that the screw holes line up. Once the EMI cover is removed lay down the lower metal plate making sure you clear the ribbon cable and put the control circuit board on the cables end back in its clip to protect it from accidental damage.
The power board and video board can now be examined. If you see domed capacitors on the power board you can remove the board by removing the four screws. Take hold of the board and gently pull and rock the board from side to side as you pull the multipin male connector out of the female connector on the video card.
Fix the power board by replacing any blown capacitors (domed tops) and reinstall. Reverse the process decribed above puting the monitor back together. Note that before screwing on the back cover first snap the front and back covers togther using your fingers.
Have a merry Christmas and new year.
