I have a MacBook Pro (about 3 years old). I downloaded a PDF that opened with Adobe Reader. Some articles printed out, some did not. The ones that failed to print came up with this: pstopdffilter/pstocupsraster failed with err number -31000 What's causing this? What does this mean? What do I do?
This is a suggestion which may help:- Try changing the print cartridge/s that will be used if the print job goes ahead. I have had the same msg come up just after changing a low cartridge with a cheaper replacement cartridge which had leaked whilst still in its cling wrap(normally I wouldn't install a cartridge like this but I had no other alternative & it did work initially & even after the error msg came up I checked it for leaks & found none. As soon as I refill a propietry one or buy another I will be trying out my own suggestion. I would appreciate it if U can email me of any success U achieve & how U did to "[email protected]"

hi,
try to download a new postscript driver and install it instead of using pcl driver!
SOURCE: I have a Brother MFC495CW
Hi,
There has been a previous issue with the the Brother printer's driver that does this. Not sure if this has been corrected by them but I am pretty sure that this is a driver issue.
Here's what you can do:
The answer was to not use the "old" drivers for 10.4 found in the archives or on the Brother website.
Instead use the "Install Additional Items" option on the Leopard install disk to update the driver for the printer. Delete and re-add the printers and all should be well.
Hope this works for you.
