Compressor not running. food is melting. door gasket is split near top of door
Next time send the model number.if the compressor isn't running check the start device located on the side of compressor.the easiest way to check it is to remove it from the compressor and shake it,if you hear pieces rattling around inside it the start device is bad.unplug the machine, remove the back bottom panel, with a screw driver or needlenose plyers remove the metal clip on the device, remove the cover and slide the device backwards,it slides into three pins on the compressor, when you slide it off just shake it or check it with a meter, you might of smelled something burning or the compressor might make a clicking sound like every three minutes.if it's an older machine it could have a timer in it that's stuck or a bad cold control this is why you should send the model number, most likely it will be the start device.good luck and when you get it running change out the gasket

A refrigerator or freezer that is cooling, but cooling poorly, may have a problem in one of several areas.
Poor cooling is often the result of a heavy frost build-up on the evaporator coils or a condenser that is clogged with dust, lint, and dirt.
You can't see these coils without removing a panel on the inside of your freezer. A sure sign that there is a build-up is the presence of any frost or ice build-up on the inside walls, floor, or ceiling of the freezer.
Such a frost build-up usually indicates a problem in the self-defrosting system or damaged door gaskets.
Watch its operation more closely to see if any same symptom.

Check the compressor.
Unplug for 15-20 min. plug it back in and listen for the compressor to start. You will have to be behind the ref to listen and make sure you hear the compressor start and not just a fan running. If you hear a clicking noise then the compressor relay is bad.

Look at the back of the freezer wall from inside the freezer. Is there frost on it? If there is, you need to replace one of the components of the defrost system. If there is no frost then you need to have a repair made to the sealed system, it is either out of gas or the compressor is running inefficiently
SOURCE: GE refrig Model # GSS25WGMD WW freezer is cool,
I pulled the refrig out from the wall, turned it off, took off the back panel (that covers the compressor fan and motor) and used the attachment on my vacuum to remove the dust from the area. Then I closed the flapper that allows the ice to release from the ice maker compartment to the dispenser, so no warm air would get into the freezer area. I plugged the refrigerator back in and within an hour it was freezing again! So far this week, I have had to repair the garbage disposal and the refrigerator.....I saved some nice $$$ by figuring this out by myself!
