Next time send the model number.if the compressor isn't running check the start device located on the side of compressor.the easiest way to check it is to remove it from the compressor and shake it,if you hear pieces rattling around inside it the start device is bad.unplug the machine, remove the back bottom panel, with a screw driver or needlenose plyers remove the metal clip on the device, remove the cover and slide the device backwards,it slides into three pins on the compressor, when you slide it off just shake it or check it with a meter, you might of smelled something burning or the compressor might make a clicking sound like every three minutes.if it's an older machine it could have a timer in it that's stuck or a bad cold control this is why you should send the model number, most likely it will be the start device.good luck and when you get it running change out the gasket

SOURCE: Kenmore Elite 596755 - Freezer warm, Ice Melted, then...

A refrigerator or freezer that is cooling, but cooling poorly, may have a problem in one of several areas.
Poor cooling is often the result of a heavy frost build-up on the evaporator coils or a condenser that is clogged with dust, lint, and dirt.
You can't see these coils without removing a panel on the inside of your freezer. A sure sign that there is a build-up is the presence of any frost or ice build-up on the inside walls, floor, or ceiling of the freezer.
Such a frost build-up usually indicates a problem in the self-defrosting system or damaged door gaskets.
Watch its operation more closely to see if any same symptom.

SOURCE: GE Profile Stainless Steel Top Freezer Refrigerator

Check the compressor.
Unplug for 15-20 min. plug it back in and listen for the compressor to start. You will have to be behind the ref to listen and make sure you hear the compressor start and not just a fan running. If you hear a clicking noise then the compressor relay is bad.

SOURCE: Our freezer is not cold, food is defrosting, ice

Look at the back of the freezer wall from inside the freezer. Is there frost on it? If there is, you need to replace one of the components of the defrost system. If there is no frost then you need to have a repair made to the sealed system, it is either out of gas or the compressor is running inefficiently

SOURCE: GE refrig Model # GSS25WGMD WW freezer is cool,

I pulled the refrig out from the wall, turned it off, took off the back panel (that covers the compressor fan and motor) and used the attachment on my vacuum to remove the dust from the area. Then I closed the flapper that allows the ice to release from the ice maker compartment to the dispenser, so no warm air would get into the freezer area. I plugged the refrigerator back in and within an hour it was freezing again! So far this week, I have had to repair the garbage disposal and the refrigerator.....I saved some nice $$$ by figuring this out by myself!

Have magic chef fridge w top freezer. Model number ctf2124ar. Ice build up in freezer near vents where fan blows air. Keeps coming back after I remove it. Anybody know what,s going on w it?

Ice build up in the freezer is usually caused by one of these problems. You may have an outside air leak from one of the door gaskets. Check the gaskets for proper seal and any cuts or pieces missing. Second possible problem may be your refrigerator is not self defrosting as it should. Cause of this could be a burned out defrost heater. With a bad defrost system, you normally will start to have your fresh food temps start to increase over time( about a week) and some food spoilage.

Kenmore elite refrigerator

where is the ice,is it on the food and shelves or is it on the back inside wall of the freezer?if it's on the back inside wall of the freezer you have a defrost problem, bad defrost thermostat, heater, timer or board depending on your model number,if it's on the shelves, door and food packages warm air is getting into the freezer somehow either from the door not closing or the door was left open, could have a bad gasket on the door, the ice chute door could be broke and not closing.let me know what you find and the picture shows a side by side but i'll need the model number too,if it's a side by side or freezer on the bottom the model number should be in the fridge section,on the right hand wall up near the ceiling,if the freezer is on top the number should be on the left side wall in the fridge section up near the ceiling.but with this hot wheather we're having if the door was left open this will happen, you can shut down the machine or unplug it,remove the food from the freezer and melt the ice with a hair dryer, don't do this with the machine running because the hot air will cause the same problem, after the ice is melted you can put the food back in and restart it.

Your Kenmore freezer is made by Gibson (Frigidaire) Your model number for your freezer is 253.24092102 I believe the problem is a defective 216979700 Main Control Board Look over the 216979700 Main Control Board for signs of burn marks or heat damage. Sometimes you can see damage but not always.I need you to do a few things when you see the freezer defrosting like this. Feel the top of the compressor and see if it is becoming extreemly hot while it stops freezing and begins to melt the ice in the freezer. Here is a photo of the=> 25324092102-Compressor-Components Should your freezer compressor location number 29 in that photo be getting hot it could be a defective 216649315 Relay and Overload Kit location number 30 in that photo is the 216649315 Relay and Overload Kit Location number 55 in that photo is the 5304464438 Run Capacitor If the motherboard looks OK but the compressor is getting hot and trying to start and stop (short cycling) I would begin by first changing the 216649315 Relay and Overload Kit and the 5304464438 Run Capacitor If you could respond by answering my post I believe I will be able to help you solve this. I am here should you respond, Thanks Sea Breeze

Freezer is not keeping food frozen and water is leaking between the freezer door and seal on the freezer door? The fan is blowing cool air.

is the compressor running?how long has the freezer been melting out?if you open the fridge door, turn the cold control up and listen to see if you hear the compressor start,if it doesn't try tapping on the control with a screw driver,if the control is bad it sticks inside and if you tap it sometimes it will free it and start but it will stop again, just doing this to check what's bad in the fridge, lso there's a timer in the fridge section, look around where the control is,you'll see a hole in the bottom of the console, you can stick a straight bladed screw driver up it and turn it slowly until it clicks,if the compressor starts when it clicks you have a bad timer and it was stuck in defrost,if the compressor is running and the freezer is still melting out you could have a leak in the sealed system a freon leak, you can check this by removing the back inside wall of the freezer, look at the evap coil,if there's just ice on the top instead of an even frost pattern over the whole coil then you have a freon leak,if the fridge has been running and you look at the coil it should have frost covering the whole coil,if ice is just on top it's new refigerator time, get back to me and let me know if the compressor is running, iis the door closing correctly and no rips in the gasket,if it has a light in the freezer push the light switch in and make sure the light is going out,if not the bulb is heating up the freezer, make sure the evap fan is blowing in the freezer and no ice on the back wall of the freezer, has any water been dripping into the fridge from the freezer,if so you have a blocked drain.do some checks and get back to me,if the freezer is melting out it sounds like you have a compressor problem

The freezer motor is not running. the ice in the freezer is melted

If you are referring to the evaporator fan motor located inside the freezer, if it is not running, then your symptoms would be cold food at the bottom of both sections, assuming its a side by side, and warm food at the top, both sides, also the icemaker wont make ice, and water likely wont come out the door. Depending on your brand, it could be the motor itself has burnt out, or possibly a bimetal thermostat, a cal rod heater, or an electronic control board.

If the freezer was stored and not running for 7 years it may have lost coolant.  Since the compressor is running recharging the coolant may fix the problem.  Hot compressor might indicate low coolant since its motor is immersed in it.

Freezer is working good but the fresh food side is warm.

I will need to get a little more information to help you better. Sounds like the defrost timer is bad but I will need a number like for example 915.125869
Let me know, Thanks Sea Breeze
Look at following areas for the model number
  • Beneath Or Inside Food Compartment On Cabinet Frame
  • On Plate Lower Front Or Rear Of Cabinet
  • Beside Compressor Door On Right End
  • Near Rear Of Cabinet
  • Inside Liner At Top

Top of freezer thawing

Ice build-up in the area of the door could be causing the door gaskets to loose their seal. Shut the unit off and use a hair drier to melt the ice away from the door area. Return the control to run position and see if it makes a difference.
