Hi. Azrul here. You can get into bios and select to boot up using your CD as your first boot priority.

But if that is not possible, just contact compaq or Helwett-Packard for a restore disk.

How to restore my dell windows xp back to its factory settings

Backup all important files and folders. Restoring your system includes formatting the hard disk.

This will erase all files and folders. Make a copy of anything you don't want to lose by backing it up on an external drive or CD/DVDs.

Locate your recovery media. Check your computer manual or the Dell support page for your system on what kind of restore function your computer has.

Some models will come with a recovery disk. Some will use a program called Norton Ghost. Others will use files hidden in a separate hard disk partition (Dell System Restore).

Use Dell System Restore. If you find your computer has Dell System Restore, restart your computer and during the boot process hold the Control Key and the F11 key.

This will boot to the restore partition of your hard drive. Follow the instructions to reset your Dell to factory settings.

Use your Dell System Recovery CD. Insert the CD and reboot your computer. When asked, choose to boot the system using the CD.

After booting the system, you will likely be asked if you want to try to repair the current installation or restore to factory defaults.

It is recommended to choose "restore to factory defaults." Follow the instructions to format your hard drive, reinstall Windows and reset your computer to factory settings.

After the operating system has been reinstalled, you may have to individually install the drivers that make your system components run.

Your Dell likely came with a CD called "Drivers and Utilities." Insert this CD and follow the on-screen instructions to install system drivers.

Once you have access to the internet, run Windows Update to configure Windows XP to the latest security and stability settings.

hope this helps

How do i reset my hp computer back to the way i bought it?

factory settings could mean performing a system restore to a previous state of the OS. I'll try to explain how you can perform each one of these methods in the article below.
Restore Factory Settings - System Restore System Restore is the in-built tool of Windows XP and Windows Vista that allows you to roll back the registry to a previous state. Note that it only "restores" previous settings for the registry and Windows system files.
You can use system restore to get rid of spyware, but if system restore does not fix your problem, you'll have to resort to either a clean install of the OS or using your recovery CD/DVDs.
You can read my previous post on how to restore your computer using the System Restore feature. If system restore is disabled, you can read my post on how to enable system restore again.
Restore Factory Settings - Recovery CD/DVDs Most computers come with either a recovery CD/DVD or a recovery partition that is hidden on the computer. This is true for most HP and Dell machines now these days.
If you have one of these, you can access the recovery from within Windows or during startup.
For HP, you can go to Start, All Programs, HP Tools, and then choose HP PC System Recovery.
You can also press the F10 key multiple times during bootup to get access to the recovery console in case Windows is not loading properly.
On Dells, you can access the recovery partition by pressing Ctrl + F11 immediately after the machine is turned on.
Note that all of your data will be lost on the hard drive. Using a recovery CD is not the same as repairing XP. When you repair Windows XP, all of the system files are replaced with the original ones, but your data and applications remain intact.
Restore Factory Settings - Clean Install XP Your last and final option for restoring XP to factory settings is to perform a clean install. This requires having the CD/DVD for the OS. If you only have a hidden recovery partition, you will not be able to perform a clean install.
A clean install basically consists of booting from the original XP CD, deleting all partitions, recreating new partitions, and then installing Windows XP from CD.
It's a fairly straight-forward process and you can read this excellent tutorial for step by step instructions. Again, it's important to note that you will lose all your data in this process.

Just reformatted my dell dimension e510, prob connecting to net

Hi there.
Use the Dell tools system software CD to install the LAN (network) drivers, just pop the CD into the drive and install the CD, once it is installed a new window will pop up giving you an option to install drivers and/or utilities, just look for the LAN or network drivers and restart the PC when prompted the LAN drivers will be installed and you will be able to connect to the internet.
Post back if you have anymore problems.

Good luck and thanks for using FixYa!!

I have no sound. No system sounds, no CD sounds, nothing. I had to do a system restore, since then I have had no sound. Please help

Hi, My Name is Henry. I am one of the technicians here.

When you made that system restore, you took your system back to when it did not have some drivers in them.

To solve this problem simply re-install drivers using the drivers CD. You can either choose to install all drivers or just the audio drivers.

if you do not have this CD go to the emachine website and look for the drivers there. Download and install it and and whalla! you will be up and running again.

Please rate my solutions to you. thank you.

How do i restore my dell settigns back to factory settings

If you mean BIOS setting, then enter the BIOS, choose Restore Defaults.
If you mean your windows installation, use the Operating System reinstallation CD from DELL (the green CD, for Windows XP). After operating system installed, use your driver CD (usually the blue CD from DELL). If you don't have the CD, please contact Dell support center to get the CD (charges may apply).

System restore

I've just had to restore my Dell Inspiron back to the original Dell setup and was told by Dell support that the same procedure applies for the dimension. Press CTR+F11 together when powering up the PC to access the restore utility, the on-screen instructions are clear and straight forward. This will rebuild your hard drive, from a ghost image in the dell partition, to the same state as when the PC arrived from Dell so you will lose any applications and files loaded since then, make sure you have a backup of any important files etc. before you do this.
