I have tried looking up that part number, and it does not seem to exist. If you can get me the numbers (Model, Spec., and Serial) off of the Tecumseh engine, I can reccomend a couple great places to get your carb at. Thanks.

You could try a briggs and strtton dealer as they took over generac but think with it being a tecunseh engine you will have a big problem as that side of the company went under a few years back, sorry cant be of more assistance

Generac xg10000e won't start

Very annoying is the word. In order for many on todays small engines to pass EPA regulations, the carburetor is set very lean. This makes them very hard to get started and warmed up. Once warm, most will run OK .
Try choking a little 'til it is warmed up and running smoothly. Some have an adjustable main jet that can be opened a little to overcome this problem.
Some are not adjustable and some have a small plastic cap over the adjusting screw. The plastic cap is supposed to be a tamper proof thing.
If you still have trouble take it to the local small engine man. I am sure he has the cure or marbe he can adjust under warranty.
Hope this helps. Robert

The original part number your looking for is 78298 (Plastic tank valve). It has been superseded by part number 080270 and it it available here:,%205,000%20Watt $5.34

Part Mfg: GENERAC Part Number: GEN 78298 This Part has been superseded arrowdown.gif Part Number: GEN 080270 Price: $5.34

When you do parts searches in the future for your generator use 9856-0 (Powerplus 5000Watt) for the model number.

You can also order the 080270 tank valve here:
If you enter the part number on the search page.

Tecumseh model 100 engine 10hp on a coleman powermate generator it starts ok however after about 3 minutes the engine sputters like it is running out of gas and quits.

check the fuel mixture settings i believe main screw is 1 3/4 turns from closed and the idle screw is set at 1 1/4 turns from closed. These settings are for non OHV models. also check that if you have a fuel filter installed that it is not plugged up.

Carb bowl

The first thing I want to say is this.

If you have a chance to dump this Robin/Subaru Genset please do so!

I say this because the Manual docs for these R/S engines and/or Gensets are so poorly written in comparison to say Briggs & Stratton or Honda engines that it's like DAY and NIGHT in comparison.

My personal GENERAC 5500 Genset (that uses a B&S 10HP engine) Users Manual is like a Chilton Auto Manual in comparison to the R/S literature. No offense, but it's the truth!

It would be nice to have the WHOLE engine model # for starters, but seeings it's a 10hp Robin/Subaru it no doubt doesn't even have the TORX head style Carb bolts/studs requiring Torx sockets.

If it does by chance - then I'm not sure what size they normally are, as I don't have the exact model #, so I guess you're on your own there and will have to find a set of Torx sockets first.

If the Float Bowl has no Main Jet external adjustment screw assy at the bottom of the Float Bowl, or retainer bolt/nut, then the Float Bowl is screw threaded on in a CW direction.

You may have to use a rubber sleeve (like a 2" cut piece of rubber inner tubing from an old bike tire) and slip it over the bowl to help unscrew it. A smaller rubber band type wrench will work also, but I would hand tighten it so as not to damage anything.

It shouldn't be tightened on that tight to begin with. Be very careful replacing it and the seal gasket (or sometimes an O-ring) making sure the threads are lined up exactly right otherwise you will cross-thread the Bowl or the Carb Body!!

I can't be any more help then that, as that's all I have to work with here.

Let me know if that does it?

Post a reply here please.

Thx and best regards,
