Trying to remove waste ink counter on an Epson RX580

The service utility program doesnt have support for my printer and I need to get my printer working again. You turn it on it says service required on the screen. On my older R300 you just had to hold down a series of three buttons and it would reset. Can it be done with this RX580. Also is there anywhere I can view the service manual online for this unit. Thank you for any help

After tons on time on the internet and having no success with the SSC service Utility 4.3 program available abundantly on the net I have found the program that resets the eprom to 0 for the Ink Overflow Counter along with the complete Service Repair Manual for the Epson RX580, RX560 and RX590. This thing allows you to fix anything wrong with your printer with detailed pictures. I had to pay for this stuff..( everything I found free was junk) so I am selling this package for $15.00. You will receive the Service Repair manual in Acrobat form and you will get the software that resets the Ink Overflow Counter. I accept paypal for payment and I can be reached at ed.locc@verizon.net. This is completely legit. Thank You.

    Comment:

I spoke to an Epson Technician and he advised me that it will support all epson printers made ( Except some like stylus R300...they can be reset using three buttons on the unit itself during startup) including RX680. What a releif it was to find something that actually worked.

Turn off the power and look inside the machine to the right hand side. Just in front to f the print head you will see a white plastic dowel (see photo). Use something technical - like a finger, pen or screwdriver - to push this dowel in. You can then move the print head by hand to the middle of the carriage.

Once moved, turn the printer on and watch it travel back to the home position. If after returning home the dowel pops back out and does not retract itself, you will need to strip the machine out and rebuild the ASF section. Sounds hard but its just a few plastic parts to take apart and reassemble whilst looking to see if anything is broken.

Get a service manual; for the machine HERE if you need to strip it out.

SOURCE: Clean "Waste Ink Cartridge" Epson R300

Had the same problem. (its a work around without removing the waste ink pad)
Took alot of work but I fixed it.
Frist thing you need to know that error means your ink waste pad is full. Its a $75.00 to replace but there is a work around it.
You will need this free app. SSC service utitlty.
http://inkjetprinterhelp.us/epsonSSC.html Its a great app.
Instrusctions are on the website there.
You will also have to Open the access panel on the rear of the printer (remove screw) and look inside carefullly with a flashlight. You will see a tube (down and to your left) coming from the cleaning pump and it will have an open end on it. This is the tube that delivers ink to the waste pad.
Use a piece of coat hanger wire or equivalent, and fish out this piece of tube. Bring it to the outside of the printer, thru the access panel.
Find yourself a suitable container (Tupperware or a plastic cup or jar) that is not too tall. Put the tube into this container and secure the tube and container so they won’t come apart or lose connection if the printer is moved.
If you wish you can make a hole or notch in the access panel cover so it can be replaced.

General error in r290

he maintenance request error is actually a Waste Ink Ink Pad Error and usually your remedy is to replace the Waste Ink Pad/Pads with a new one/ones and then reset the Internal Waste Ink Pad Counter. If you just reset the counter and don't replace the pads, then your printers old pads will eventually overflow and normally start leaking ink out the bottom of your printer. You can see "Exploded Parts Diagrams" of most Epson Ink Jet Printers and can also check on possible parts ordering, by Compass Micro Inc, at http://www.compassmicro.com/parts_select.cfm . Some people actually wash the ink out of the old pads, by holding them under running cold water. Then they simply dry them out and reinstall them back into their printer.

The choice on what to actually do, is yours to make. I would at least recommend getting that Waste Ink Counter reset procedure and performing it first, to make sure your printer will then work. There is an "Epson Stylus C60 Printer Information Page", that also includes the C43 series, that you can view at http://epsonhelp.freehttp.com/C60.html .

It does have a section on the left side you can click-on, titled WASTE INK PAD SERVICING and also a section titled HOUSING REMOVAL, that will be of some help to you, if you want to try the needed servicing. However, you will still need to go on-line and buy and download the actual Reset Procedure, to clear the actual Service Error Condition, if the SSC Service Utility listed below does not actually work on your model of epson printer and your computers operating system...THIS ADDITIONAL INFO MIGHT ALSO BE OF SOME HELP: Tim H 12/10/2003 2:46:24 Subject: Epson Reset Program Download Location. after a long search for a reset program for waste ink, without paying, i found it. goto: http://inkjetprinterhelp.us/sscserve.exe . please check that your printer is compatible goto: http://inkjetprinterhelp.us/epsonSSC.html .

this program has other features as well...Here's some previously posted info by NEWUSER, on that SSC Utility: Re: Epson C40+ Error and power light flashing by newuser (4/5/05 11:10 AM). To reset the error download this utility:
http://inkjetprinterhelp.us/epsonSSC.html . Once installed run the program and configure it, closing the main window and right clicking the icon in the tray area, from there choose Configure and select your printers model. After configuration, select Protection counter -> Reset protection counter, it should be able to clear the error message. If that does not actually work, then the only suggestion I can give is to perform a soft-reset before resetting counter.

Remove also the Epson status agent, it detects errors and it may hinder communication with the printer, then reboot your pc. As profile choose the one sscservice didn't use after autoconfiguration, check for printer response. Remember that you should also clean the waste ink pads located at the printer bottom, for a step by step guide download the service manual for your printer from this site

Unfortunatly, that "SSC Service Utility" does not work on all Epson Printers and not on all Operating Systems and sometimes will not even work on actually listed printer models, so you will have to check it out for yourself. Just in case that source does not work: You may actually need to go on-line to try and locate a "SERVICE MANUAL" and or the actual "RESET PROCEDURE", to buy and download for reference in disassembly, troubleshooting and servicing. I have not checked, but you can normally find Service Manuals & Reset Procedures for most Epson Printers

Both the red and green light are on and blinking. What is wrong with my Epson C60?

kiryakitsa1 You should download the SSC Service Utility as pineworks says. Read the instructions and warnings. Go to Reset counter protection and press reset. You may recieve a warning about replacing your waste ink pads. I have always reset the protection counter without replacing the waste ink pads and I have never had a problem. If you see ink drainage then you should replace the waste ink pads and then reset the protection counter. I have never had a problem with ink heads and I have done this many times.

Printer send s message Life of parts ending

Hi,

The "end of life" message means that the waste pads are full of waste ink.

You need to either:
  • get the printer serviced at an Epson service center

    OR

  • install an external waste ink counter and reset the waste ink/protection counter.

All the information you need to install an external waste ink tank is available from here:
http://www.continuousink.info/forum/viewtopic.php?t=4096

Resetting the waste ink counter is easily done using the IPR utility which you can read more about and find downloads for, from here:
http://www.wasteink.co.uk/epson-ipr-reset/

Hope that helps..

Parts inside your printer require maintenance or replacement. Contact your dealer...... epson stylus c40ux both lights are flashing ... won't print

A service error where you get a message telling you that "Parts inside your printer at the end of their service life, contact your dealer for replacement", or "Parts inside your printer require maintenance or replacement, call your service company", is normally a Maintenance Request Error. The maintenance request error is actually a Waste Ink Ink Pad Error and usually your remedy is to replace the waste ink pad/pads with a new one/ones and then reset the Internal Waste Ink Pad Counter. You may be able to reset that waste ink counter, using the SSC SERVICE UTILITY available at http://inkjetprinterhelp.us/sscserve.exe . You can check and see if your particular epson printer is compatible, by going to http://inkjetprinterhelp.us/epsonSSC.html ...Here's some previously posted info that may also help. To reset the error download this utility: http://inkjetprinterhelp.us/epsonSSC.html . Epson 2400 paper red light and ink red light

It sounds like your printer has reached what is often called the "service required" stage...

To solve this you need to handle two things.

1. Get the printer protection counter (or waste-ink as it's sometimes called) reset.

2. Replace the waste ink pads OR redirect your waste ink flow to an external tank

It's important to note that Epson will encourage you to do a waste pad replacement through one of their service centers, but if you're out of warranty this will cost a significant amount of money (approx: $100 - 200)

To solve these as a DIY you can do the following:

1. Resetting the counter...
Get a resetter, either the SSC utility (google: epson SSC utility) or the IPR utility that Epson have now made available via their website here

The latter is only available to North American printer owners so the SSC is a safer bet.

2. Redirecting waste ink to an external container.
This is something I'd heartily recommend instead of trying to change the waste pads yourself... It's simple enough to do and a little googling using keywords "Epson R2400 waste ink tank" should get you all the info you need.

There are simple kits available that offer everything you need or you can easily go for a DIY with bits you have to hand.

Hope that helps...
