Try pressing FN key and F8 key to switch between screens. If that doesn't help right click on desktop, select properties, settings tab, click advanced button. there may be something in there to force the TV.

Try the following:
Power up the projector first. With the laptop hooked up but not powered on once projector is warming up begin booting laptop. If there is still no display once its projector is fully warmed up and laptop booted you can try using the (fn) key with the laptop monitor switching function key usually F4 which switches the display monitor to show on external, external and laptop or just laptop. If this all fails try changing resolution of laptop to something that might be more projector friendly.
Let me know how you go.
make sure that you have the latest version of driver for your graphics card, then right click the the desktop click on settings and check that the display is set to how you prefer it then click on apply
Most tv's aren't compatible, if it has a vga port then it should be, and on some, you need drivers in order for the tv to be used as a monitor. Keep in mind that tv's aren't designed to be computer monitors, and if compatible, often don't get the resolution desired or expected. This is especially true with models that are compatible that use the s-vid cable for the connection. So, if the tv doesn't work simply by plugging it in with the s-vid cable, then look for drivers for the tv at the manufacturer's web site. If none are available, then the tv is not compatible as a monitor. While at the manufacturer's site, you might also check the compatibility.
