Question about Akai PDP4206EA Television

Brownout killed my TV, looking for a replacement Main Board...

I recently had a brown out here at home and even though my plasma TV was connected to one of the those el cheapo 2000 joule surge protectors, it still fried the Main Board. The TV blanked out for a minute and when it came to, the picture was blood red. I had troubleshooted and issue similar to this when I bout it and it turned out to be the Main Board (with the cpu). Apparently the flash had become corrupt and was providing incorrect information to the CPU. I suspect the Flash has become corrupt again, but the backup I made using my Willem doesn't seem to work now. I have tried a few backups that I have mand and Removing, programing, and resoldering this the flash is really taxing on the PCB and chip and now it won't even turn on. I get a steady green power light on the front of the TV, but hitting the power button or the remote doesn't seem to put things in motion. I suspect the chip has given out and it won't boot the CPU.

Has anyone seen anything like this? Did I kill something else? Does anyone have a backup flash that they can email me for an Akai pdp4206ea? Does anyone have a replacement Main Board? Would you be willing to trade? I have a working video board for my Akai pdp4206ea (I bought it during troubleshooting a B/W issue with this same tv and it turned out that it wasn't the problem). I can overnight the part to you if you wish.

Fault to the main power supply regulator section. Either it will be a separate board, or the part of main board. Check and replace damaged component/s at its main power regulator [SMPS] section circuit. Contact any service technician. If you wish to get some details; check the site linked here. Surf the site with patience. Pull up older posts.

It will be best to replace the power supply regulator board as card basis rather than making "Surgery" to it; which usually will make loss for both money and time. Even though you can make it right, it will cost around an amount equal to the cost of a new board; including the cost of (spare parts + service charge) More to say, most of the spare parts to it will be difficult to get from open electronic spare part market. This is true to most of the flat panel TV power supply boards; irrespective of its brand and screen size.

After replacement of the power board, Va&VS voltages are to be set according to the silk screen; can be located at the display panel, and it is a must for plasma displays.

Power supply or something connected and the clicking is likely a mechanical relay that is not bad but not engaging.

I see so many here with no sound/nopicture issues:

ISSUES:

1. IF sound main fuse/s are good.
2. If no power or standby check main fuse, standby power supply and any signsof damage you can see---burnt parts etc.
3. almost all these sets the troubleshooting involves checking voltages on the main power board to narrow down theproblem.
4. Be safe and if you do not know what you are doing don't open the set.

Answers to issues:

1. RE:fuses---if a blown fuse is found get a good replacement(not the genericones like Radio Shack). Many fuses are special even aside from amperage--Don'tput a higher rated amperage fuse in the set for any reason.

2. RE: power supply in set: if total dead aside from main fuse the set uses astandby power supply that runs 7/24 and a main supply (some are combined andsome not.

Here aside from checking fuses you want to examine all the filter caps on thepower/standby to see if any are puffed up or buldged up in some fashion--Iattach a photo of a good one---top should be silver metal and PERFECTLY flatand have no brown material coming out on top or bottom.

What happens in the standby area is they use caps with too low a voltage rating(saves money) which causes them to fail in a year or two---the standby runs7/24 and the heat dries out the caps and they fail.

3. Trouble shooting consists of the above and then at some point you have to buyand try a board to see if it fixes it or not.

4. Safety first--no TV set is worth getting injured or even killed over.If set is opened at least look for puffed up and bad caps like in thisphoto.

I heard small pop then lost power while watching my lg 50pg20. No red or blue lights on the power switch. What could be wrong?

you are describing a power supply defect. IT may be as simple as the main fuse. I believe the one in this set is a 6.5 amp located on the ps board right by cord connection. IF after replacing the fuse opens a second time you will need to replace the power board.

the y-boards are not the problem. its the e or f board located on the bottom of the panel open the back cover and look at both for potential burn spots around the silicon sealant. if one or r brown, theres your problem. ebay the board number and get it fixed.
