Question about HP Pavilion dv6000z Notebook

Troj/Rustok-N virus! I have been trying to get rid of this nasty trojan for three days now! I have run scans using Zone Alarm, True Sword, and Malwarebytes. The online Kapernsky scan would not work BECAUSE of the virus! Anytime I try to update any anti-virus program I get a message telling me that I'm not connected to the internet. What do I do! I can't visit some sights now, like you-tube because they can detect that I have this virus, but none of my software can find it...Please Help!

  • beanbag786 Feb 19, 2009

its not on the list that comes up when you scan with hijackthis, ive already tried

I also have this virus and have been unable to get rid of it to date. It did not come up in the Hijack this log. It blocks access to many effective anti-spyware sites, such as SpyBot, and falsely says that there is no internet connection to them. Any suggestions on how to get rid of this???? thanks!

Redirects searches on search engines. Blocks most anitvirus or malware detectors from opening such as MBAM or Spyware Doctor that treated it earlier. Please help.

Download HiJack This. Yes it will download but you may have to click on Cached Page or risk a redirect. Run HiJack This (as an administrator in Vista) scan only and check-off all boxes for entries starting with 017 - HKLM then click fix. Run it again to make sure they're gone. Now download Avenger and unzip to your desktop. Run Avenger, leave the script box empty and check both Scan for Rootkit & Disable Rootkits found. Click Execute. Your computer will reboot and you'll see a log of what happened. DONE. download all your definitions and run all the **** you want.

How can I remove a virus from a laptop

Honestly in my experience I wipe the HDD and starts fresh, some root-kits are very nasty to completely get rid of... in the past I have used this tool in XP with some success finding and identifying viruses... I usually accomplished removal by Googling the name if the virus the tool reports. the more common ones have tools to go in and fix it.

I have a Trojan virus, how do I get rid of it

How do you know you have a Trojan? Did your antivirus tell you? If so, what was the exact text of the message (especially the name of the virus)? If you have an antivirus installed, try using that to scan and delete it. Otherwise, search Google for the name of the virus and how to remove. If you can't figure it out, I might be able to find something related to that virus.

I recently got a virus and installed norton to get rid of it, but now one of my files wont open and the background will not change from the solid color

Sounds like the virus remains. Download this free malware scanner HERE and run a full scan. Download/install/update/scan (select full scan). If it finds some nasties let it clean them off and run a full scan in safe mode again. (press F8 as your computer boots up).

Even after virus removal there can be residual damage in the registry. If you still have problems after the scan reply to my thread here and describe in detail your issues. I will watch for a reply from you and try to help you through it.

Sounds like you have a nasty virus, trojan or malware. Follow the guide below and try to clean the system. Once the cleaning is done and you still have the problem, then we can think about OS problems or hardware.

At the end of this are three links to programs that you should load up and run. The first is MalwareBytes Ant-Malware Tool, another is Avast Anti-Virus 5.0, the third is Threatfire.
Run MalwareBytes first and perform a quick scan, when it finishes, it will ask you to show the results, click on “Show results, all infections will appear in red. Delete everything it finds.
Run Avast and install it, when it asks, go ahead and schedule a pre-boot scan of your entire system. This should get rid of most problems….Now, if you have Norton Anti-Virus, internet security or any of the others, they also be causing some of your problems. They will have to be removed and the only way to properly do that is go to the Norton site and download their Norton removal tool. Run this before installing any other kind of ant-virus. The Avast 5.0 is free to use, just register it once a year, that is all…it will update itself 2-4 times a day to keep its virus definitions constantly updated, you do not have to do anything, it is completely automated and has 7 real time scanners that run all the time.

When your boot time scan is over and you have either deleted or moved the infection to the chest as Avast recommends, now run Threatfire…it will ask you to let it update as will Malwarebytes, do so. Threatfire monitors every web page on the world wide web and lets you know if your tap dancing where you shouldn’t, it will throw a flag up and say abort connection…do so to save yourself from a bad situation. The links are below.

Troj/Rustok-N virus!

Have you tried doing a system restore to a date prior to getting the virus. This often returns registry values to the original ones. If you do this and it works make sure you then delete all the old restore points so you don't accidently reinfect your computer. Unfortunately some virus's can prevent system restore from working.

Would appreciate feedback if this works for you. Thanks
