I have water leaking into the ref compartment from the freezer

Kenmore model no 78867891 year 1998. I have taken off the bottom pan of the freezer and chipped the ice build up from the back of the freezer exposing the drain hole. I have thawed out the hole approx 2" deep and can't seem to get anymore. I've poured hot water into the drain hole. Water is dripping into the ref but the drain line continues to be dry. What is my next step?

I would get a pipe cleaner or wire and clean out the rest of the drain hose. also use HOT water down the drain. untill all the water drain thru the hose.

after you get it clear run a wire down the drain and wrap it around the heater .. heat from the wire will keep it clear of ice..

Where is the "heater" that it should be wrapped around? Do you have a diagram?

Water leaking on the floor

Clean the drain pan and drain line in the back of the freezer section underneath the evaporator coil. Make sure water drains when you pour it in.
Good luck! :)

Kenmore Refridgerator leaking water into refridgerator compartment from freezer compartment

You most likely have a clogged drain. When you freezers goes into defrost every 8 to 10 hours. The frost that is melted during the defrost drains from the freezer either down through the fridge or out the back and down. Either way it drains into a pan under the fridge. This tube is either clogged or the drain it's self inside the freezer is. Most of the time I find peas stopping the water from draining from the freezer. When the water can't drain it leaks through the bottom of the freezer into the fresh food section of the fridge. You will need to fix this because it will cause other problems. The water that cant drain from the freezer refreezes and will end up destroying the foam in the bottom of the freezer. Water will also leak onto the controls located in the part between the freezer and fresh food section ruining you controls.

My kenmore is leaking water once a day .

You didn't say from where. Usually twice a day your de-ice heating coils come on and melt any ice that has accumulated. this water usually runs down the back of the ref. and collects in a small pan under the ref. Someime ice form around the hole that the water drains down through to go into the small pan. so then when the deicer comes on the water just runs down the bottom of the ref and onto the floor. My Kenmore does the same thing. Remove everything from the bottom of the Freezer look in the back at the bottom see if hole is clogged with ice. Remove ice then pour hot water down hole check occasionally.

Ice is forming on the bottom of the freezer (Kenmore).

Self-defrosting refrigerators dispose of the water generated during the defrost cycle, usually via a tube or channel that directs the water to a pan at the bottom of the refrigerator. From the pan, the water normally evaporates. (See a more detailed explanation of this in the How Things Work section of our website).

If the tube or channel is clogged or obstructed, the water backs up and leaks into the inside of the refrigerator/freezer compartment. Then the water builds up at the bottom, inside of the refrigerator/freezer. When the water has built up for a time it may spill out of the front of the door opening. To fix this problem, clear the drain tube or channel and allow the defrost water to flow down to the drain pan.

Whirlpool fridge getting water from upper freezer compartment

well if you hat the freezer on top normaly air leaks inside freezer through the drain tube, that air turns into condensation and creates a ice and cloges your drain. now water can drain down to pan everytime ref goes into defrost , and water leaks to bottom section to air ducts and air returns. there are several ways to solve this problem the cheapeste way is to unplug refrigerator for 2 days then plug back up and it should go back to normal another way is to install a heat probe on your drain attached to your defrost heater , and add a grommet on drain tube that will let water drain but it will keep air out and that will solve your problem.

Drain pan leaking?

there is a drip pan located underneath you ref but most likely your prob is a plugged drain line coming from the freezer. when you ref goes into automatic def the water doesnt run out into the drip pan but instead onto your floor..

you can clean the drain line by removing the rear cover in the freezer compartment and using hot water to thaw the drain below the evap coil.
