Re: It wont start up.
Part of the process that Windows needs to fire up has been corrupted. This prevents you using safe mode also. Generally only a repair or full install will fix it but first try a disc check
boot from any xp cd and select R at the first options screen. select C drive by entering the number shown (1?) hit enter when asked for admin password type chkdsk /r (space between k and /r) and hit enter let it do its thing - it may take some time.
a 6ya Technician can help you resolve that issue over the phone in a minute or two.
Best thing about this new service is that you are never placed on hold and get to talk to real repair professionals here in the US. click here to Talk to a Technician (only for users in the US for now) and get all the help you need. Goodluck!

perhaps you need to reinstall the operating system, the system files might be corrupted because of power problem, and there's "windows loading files" thing,so the windows cannot go further because it cannot find some files while loading. do you need any help with installing operating system?
Remove the AC power (charger) and then take the battery out. Plug in just the AC power supply and turn the laptop on, see if it boots up and shows a display on-screen. If it boots let it boot up and then shut it down as normal. Reinsert the battery and try as normal. If you still get a blank screen can you then tell me if you get any post (splash) information like the Compaq Presario logo before it goes blank.
Try booting to the safe mode (F8 at boot) and see if you can log in via the safe mode. If you can't, try booting to your Windows CD, go to recovery console and run CHKDSK /R
If you still can't log in, try running diags see if the hard drive lists a failure.
if no hardware failure found, there and none of those solutions work, then re-installing windows will likely be the final resolution
It is likely that the hard drive is bad or a memory issue. I would start by removing the hard drive and see if it goes past the compaq screen. If it does then you know what is wrong. If not message me and will walk you through the next step
This is hopefully a possible fix. I have encountered a similar problem with windows xp and vista. the fix I found that will eliviate this problem and a startup-reboot-startup-reboot... If you have your original windows (xp or vista) CD lounch it like you would do to do a system install. As the installation starts it will show ask you if you would like to do a recovery using the recovery console, just press ESC and go on. Press the F8 to accept the license. If Windows is not completly broke, it will find the original installation on your hard drie. It will ask if you want to repair. Press the R key and windows will reinstall your operating system, without destroying your software or data. After it is done the system will go to the windows startup screen. You will need your windows product key located on your machine or on the original software packaging.
I hope this will fix your problem.
This is Romeet, i would like to help you with this problem. Please go into the BIOS and check if the hard disk is detected? if it is then remove the hard disk from the laptop and turn on, check if you get any error message for " disk boot failure" or something of that effect or you continue recieving the white cursor?
