I did something and now i dont have a start menu

Click Ctrl+Alt+Delto get to Task Manager. Hold the Ctrl key, plus Hold the Alt Key then hitthe Del key while holding them.Once the task manager opens Clcik the Processes tab then click the Image NameColumn heading on the left to get them in alphabetical order. Scroll downand look for explorer.exe. If you see it click it to highlight it thenclick End Process.

Next, click the FILE tab at the very top left of the window and select New Task(RUN). When the Create New Task window opens type explorer.exe and pressok. Your start menu, task bar and desktop icons will start appearing andpopulating. if not that means a virus has hidden your files and folders.

My friends laptop starts up and only loads the wallpaper on the desktop homepage, no icons or start menu appear.

Don't worry when your friends laptop starts and if nothing is displayed then Press Ctrl Alt Del keys on your key board.Just see that you have pressed all the keys at same time or first press Ctrl then keep it pressed and with another finger press Alt and also keep it pressed and at last press Del key.
You will find task manager opened on the screen .There you will find File option ,click on it and select New task from the drop down.
Another dialog box will open type there explorer.exe and click OK.
Your problem will be fixed then.
Thanks,
Have a great day

Dell Dimension 5150. After bost my computer, I can the accounts icons on the screen, but I cannot slect the icon by mouse because all USB port did not work.

You can try this. On the log-on screen where you see your Account Icons try pressing ctrl alt delete. Some windows XP are configured that if ctrl+alt+delete are pressed on the lon-on screen the classic log-on screen window will appear, where you can type your username and password thus eliminating the use of the mouse.

Password did not ppass???????????

Try to log in at username administrator with blank (nothing) password. In case you don't see the icon for this user hit ctrl+alt+del TWICE and type the credentials. After you logged in change your account's password as you wish.

In case of a problem or clarification, don't hesitate to post me a reply.

Desktop icons and start button issue

Hit CTRL-ALT-DEL

Task manager will come up.

Then click File, New Task.

Then type explorer.exe

This will load the things that you're missing. These things are probably missing because you have a virus. Make sure you do a scan.

I have a presario 2100 laptop, when I turn my computer on it goes to the desktop and there are no icons or anything on the screen.just the background.to turn it off i have to unplug it.when i turn it back...

Hello,
When your computer boots and reaches to the background screen, press ctrl+alt+del and see if Task Manager appears.
If it does, then go to File, New Task (Run) and type explorer.exe and press enter. Your desktop should appear. It may have accidentally been removed from startup.

If it does not, then it might need a repair or recovery due to loss of files.

Thanks,
Lolita

Virus problem

log in under safe mode. To do this, tap F8 on startup. choose the administrator account to log in with. run your virus software and do a full scan.

If you haven't got virus software, download a free one like AVG Antivirus.
