Question about Panasonic PV-GS80 Mini DV Digital Camcorder

Open Question

Cannot capture my video on PC with Panasonic PV-GS80

The camcorder is plugged into the firewall.
I'm trying to capture using Nero. (and Window's movie maker and AVS...)

The programm respond to my command (when I push rewind in Nero, I does rewind on the camera).

Nero Vision (capture video) :
Unable to analyze the captured file 'C:\Documents and Settings\HP_Owner\My Documents\NeroVision\CapturedVideo\NVECapture.0001.avi'.

Even if i'm seeing my movie preview into the camcorder : in the programm the preview window's stay blank.

Not all camcorders work with that software. You might try Adobe Premiere or Virtual Dub. You are right, no one will help you configure your PC for free.

SOURCE: Huge Loss Of Quality When Importing To Computer

First off, see if it has a firewire port, and if so then try to upload via firewire cable, not usb. But for any camera, you lose quality when uploading to a computer. What you could try doing is convert it to another format, this may improve quality some. Try not using widescreen, see what results you will get. Also, are you using internal memory on the camera or external (IE-SD card). From my experience, using a high quality SD card (SDHC for example) and getting a card reader (They are cheap, USB card readers about a buck on ebay) and uploading it like that, you get better quality video and pictures. Try some of these, if they don't work you can wait for another person to answer or email me.
Thanks, Aram

Where can i buy a data cable for my panasonic pv-gs80 that can config wiht my pc

Ask for IEEE1394 cable also called iLink or firewire.
Beaware that firewire has several types of socket configurations.

In most cases a 4 pin to 6 pin cable will work.
4 pin goes to the camera 6 or 9 pin goes to PC or Mac.

Hi, I have a panasonic pv-gs80 video cam and I would like to save my movies on my e-machine p c. What cables and software do I need? thanks Tim E-Mail timjune@sbcglobal.net

If you don't want to spend a lot of money you could use Corel VideoStudio. As for cables, your camera should have come with a USB 2.0 cable that would connect to the camera and then to the USB port on the PC. Or, if your pc has a firewire port, you could buy that cable to connect for a faster video transfere and capture. Hope this helps.

Can you even load vedios on the computer with this camcorder?

Connect the camera to the PC. The PC should detect the camera and a window will pop up asking you what to do. Select COPY CONTENTS TO HDD or some such thing. All contents will go to MY Videos folder in My Documents.

PV GS39 Win XP Movie Maker

I don't know if Windows XP Movie Maker can detect a firewire based video camera.

Do you have DVD burning software such as Nero in your computer? That has capture capability to it.

Pinnacle Studio will detect a firewire camera. It is reasonably priced and easy to use. In fact you can control your camcorder from Studio in case you need to rewind or fast forward the tape.

How do i upload

I had the same problem of my program not recognizing the camera and clicking "refresh" did nothing. I downloaded Windows Movie Maker 2.6 and it enabled me to transfer from the tape in the camera to my PC and to a DVD.

Okay, I'll admit...I don't know whether this problem was solved by the download of Windows Movie Maker 2.6 or it was the fact that I finally figured out that I had to attach the AC cord to do anything at all! Sometimes we overlook the simplest things!!
