How do I replace Moen shower handle #100710

With the broken handle #100710 removed, I could turn the "stem" with a wrench to take a shower, being VERY careful not strip or "disfigure" the brass stem, very easy turning on/off. Now I found the replcmt #100710 at my (not) local Home Depot. The guy opened the pkg to assure it was the same handle. Evidently the installation instructions fell out unnoticed. I (thought) I put it on correctly, seemed easy enough... It WILL NOT TURN at all. BTW I had taken the plastic (?) 2 pc sleeve w/me to HD. I do have it, maybe something wrong with the rplcmt w/that (?) HELLLLPP Thanks in advance Susi

SOURCE: Moen Bath Tub Faucet

Hi varn4620,

I'm Harvey the Master Plumber.

Your question is: You had to replace the faucet in the tub due to a broken plastic piece in valve stem. Bought a Moen ripped the wall out and put new faucet in. Went good untill we turned the water on and the shower rained on us. Tightened everything you could find to tighten .Every time the water is turned on the shower rains. Can this be fixed or is the faucet broken?

Is this new faudet a single handle? If so I"ve had this experience also. Most of the time it's because the guts were not lined up properly at the factory. You may have to play with it a bit.
Turn off the water and take the handle off and remove the sleave, remove and rotate the guts. Try 90' at a time. Turn water on to try it. Useually one of the other 3 positions will be right. The correct position is there, but it may take time to find it.

SOURCE: Moen shower/tub faucet

hi... yes that's a very common issue with moen "cartridges" -- it's very simple to fix..... grasp the handle and give it a gentle tug upwards when the water is on... if it retracts again, pull the handle out again and tug again but this time a bit harder. Not sure what causes this on new cartridges but it will fix your issue.

How to tighten set screw on Moen brantford shower lever

It sounds like the lever handle adapter may be broken or has become disengaged. . Remove the handle and inspect it. If the adapter is broken, it can be purchased at a plumbing supply house. Neither Home Depot nor Lowes will have it.

We have a Moen one handle faucet in the bathtub. It was installed opposite for water but I see the answer to that question is to flip the cartridge. Well, now the appears that something is stripped as...

If the handle spins, but the cartridge remains stationary, then the stop inside the handle is broken and the handle must be replaced. To test, remove handle and see if you can turn the stem with a pliers. If you can turn the water on, then I'm right. Replace the handle. If not, then you have me stumped.

MY Moen single handle shower knob turns in a complete circle. From left clockwise, it goes from hot, tepid, cold, tepid, then back to left-hot. What causes this and how can it be repaired?

It sound like you have a Moen Posi-temp faucet and the handle is broken. It is probably an acrylic hdle with a tear drop shaped cover. Take a knife and slide it under the cover to pry it off. Unscrew the center screw and the handle will pull right off. You will see two shoulders inside the hdle, one of which will be cracked and broken. Replace the hndle which can be purchased at any Lowes or Home Depot. Plumbing supplies also carry replacements, but you can probably get one cheaper at HD or Lowes.. Make sure to use the washer provided. It has two flats on the inside of washer. Slide this over the brass stem on your cartridge, NOT on the hdle screw. Install it with the flats of the cartridge in horiz. position. Try faucet. If the water comes out in the opposite temp you expect, warm is cold, and cold is warm, remove the hdle, spin the stem 180 degrees and reinstall hdle.Good luck!

When faucet is fully closed hot water keeps on leaking.

You need to replace the valve stem. Turn off house water, locate and loosen handle set screw, remove cylindrical cover, and remove retaining nut to access stem. Take e stem with you to a home store or plumbing supply house for accurate relacement.

Water is either hot or cold will not mix temps Model 100710 handle

I believe this would be the cartridge behind the knob. Remove the knob and pull the cartridge out and do a little inspection. If you have hard water it is probably all fudged up. Change this part and your problem should be solved. Please rate! Thank you

Moen Single Handle Shower faucet can't get cylinder out

New moen cartridges for tub/showers come with a handy white plastic tool to aid in old cartridge removal. One end is squared off for a wrench, the other is slotted to place over the old cartridge in the wall after the clip has been removed. Place onto cartridge and use a wrench to turn several times back and forth. Remove , grab the stem with pliers and give a tug. You want either service part #1225B (pull/push to turn on) or #1222 (just turn knob counterclockwise to turn on. Get the replacement before you proceed.

I have a Moen shower knob that broke...

You are not the first. Usually you must break the plastic handle to remove it and then you can access the screw and have leverage to hold the brass stem with pliers while you try removing the screw. Caution, do not try to bend the handle to break it off or you will break the brass facet stem. Also, there are two styles of handles: one has a short innercone, the other has a longer inner cone. You need to know this before you purchase a replacement. Goodluck< Macgivor

A stem is a cartridge in a real old valve. You have pulled retainer clip, you can try to pull it out with pliers, but you might need a moen cartrigde puller.
