Question about GE GSS22JFMWW Side by Side Refrigerator

GE TFX24FHB system check shows problem code "de" but its still cold for now..

Our side by side is still working, sounds normal, yet the system check display is showing "de". That "de" code says to keep the doors closed as much as possible and to call a repairman. We can NOT afford a repairman these days so can you please tell us how we can fix it ourselves? Thank you

Hello,
It sounds as though you may have an issue with the defrost system. If the system check shows an open circuit on the frost heater or an open circuit for the defrost thermostat when the temp in the freezer is at zero then you will get this problem.

I would keep an eye on it for a couple days and see if frost starts to accumulate on the rear wall of the freezer. If so you will manually have to defrost the freezer so the machine can maintain temperature. When you have the rear wall removed from the freezer you will need to check the resistance of the defrost heater.

Let me know how you make out and if you have anymore questions. Thanks,
Bill

Sounds as if it lost its gas in the move. Check for broken pipework or capillary. It might be repairable.

If you are sure the sound is coming from the freezer side, then yes you should empty the frrezer and take off the rear shield. While the heating element is normally encased in glass or plastic. Water droplets hitting an electrical connection could also cause a sizzling sound.

My GE side by side refrigerator isn't working right. The freezer works great, but I can't get any coldness on the refrigerator side. Even at the highest cold setting.

Check your air door at the top left rear of your refrigerator side. If no air is flowing try opening it by hand while you are there. Also check the freezer for a fan sound to be sure your fan isnt stuck or dead.

GE Model TFX20D not cooling!

Hi, If the defrost heater doesn't come on, check continuity on the bi-metal swtch located on the top of the evaporator coil. The bi-metal needs to be cold when testing it. If the switch is cold and shows an open circuit, it will need replaced. The bi-metal switch is a thermostat that turns the defrost heaters off when the desired tempurature is reached,.
Please let me know if this has helped you at all or if I can assist you further.

Thanks

Ge fridge GSS25LFGww, fridge part freezing food

Hi, Change the controls back to normal settings. Make sure the freezer is getting 0 to 5 above. If the freezer is getting cold enough, try and turn the cold control to 1 and see if the refrigerator shuts off. It sounds like the cold control in not working properly and will need to be replaced. NOTE: The freezer temp has to be right temp or the fresh food side will not work proper.
I hope this helps. Please let me know if I can assist you further.

I have an older side by side ge fridge with the panel display that shows pf - power failure de - cc etc well the de light has come on and I don't know what it means - I do not have the manual and I'm not...

The DE error comes up when the refrigerator has not detected adefrostcurrent within a certain amount of time. This is most often theresultof a burnt out defrost heater. The refrigeratorwill likelykeep working for a week or so until the frost builds up andblocks theair flow over the evaporator (the cooling coils behind theback wall ofthe freezer). The defrost heater is located at the bottomof saidevaporator.
You can try your zip code in http://www.geappliances.com/buy/ and look for a servicing dealer.

Good luck. Please rate my answer if accepted.Thank you.

GE fridge TFX24FHB mfr'd 7/86 - system check display shows "de"

This may or may not be the fix, but I had a problem with my GE Profile TFX24PR sibe-by-side. Water was leaking from the ice maker water fill tube into the back of the freezer, onto the cooling coils. This would cause the freezer to go into extended defrost and the freezer and fridge would warm up. If you see ice inside the freezer, especially around the outside of the ice bin, or odd chunks of ice in the ice bin, turn off the ice maker and/or the source water supply and see if the problem clears up. If the ice buildup is especially heavy, you may need to remove your food, and unplug and manually defrost/thaw the freezer. You may want to remove the cooling coil cover, that is the back wall of the inside of the freezer. Mine had five screws holding a thin sheet of metal, three at the top and two near the bottom. Once this is off you can see the cooling coils. Be careful not to bump or scrape the coils. At this point I found about a quart of ice frozen on top of the coils in one big chunk, stuck to many wires. I carefully broke off what ice I could, and used a hair dryer to melt the rest.

If this is the problem, then you will need to replace the ice maker water fill tube. This is a time consuming job, you have to disassmble the fan compartment on the back wall of the freezer behind the ice maker to get to the fill tube connector. Once you get there it's easy to reach and it just pushes into the connector. In my case, I just reversed the ends and pushed it back in for a snug fit. You may want to consider using a sealer to prevent it from happening again any time soon.
