Question about Sony MZ-M200 Personal MiniDisc Player

Open Question

Uploading music together with track marks.

I have numerous recorded minidiscs with approx. 200 trackmarked separate items. There is no obvious gap between recordings. I would like to upload the music together with track marks to a pc (windows). All the recordings were from vinyl records I own. The MZ-M200 looks as if it might do the job. Am I correct? Are there any previous models that wouyld also do the job?

I thought that this site was connected or sponsored by Sony. As I was considering purchasing a Sony mindisc I assumed that the site controllers would have the information I asked readily available, The reply I recieved invites me to pay for information that any normal seller of a product would be keen to provide for nothing so that a sale might be achieved John TIMBRELL.

SOURCE: Erasing a used minidisc w/out software

While holding down the Pause button, push Record. The display should blink the disc icon and REC. Then push the <<| until the display shows 001. Then push the pause button to start recording. This will start it from the beginning. You can use this feature to start recording at the beginning of any track you choose. You can download a manual for this machine at: www.minidisc.org

I hope this helps.

Why doesn't it record to md?

You can't make a copy of a copy of a digitally recorded MiniDisc, so make sure that isn't what's happening- if so, it usually says "Din Unlock" and you can't record. I think when I record from one deck to the other digitally, I have set the recording deck to "REC", then I hit 'play' on both decks at the same time. Using the digital input, it should automatically set your track marks. You cannot make a digital copy of this MiniDisc, BUT you can make an Analog copy. Let me know if you need more info.

HI, got tons of MDs with music I want to transfer to PC/CD/DVD. What's the best/cheapest/easiest - preferably not real-time transfer, like cassette, tedious. MD is digital, so why is it proving so damn...

Your problem is that MiniDisc is only a one-way street. Music can be copied from another device or (with a Net MiniDisc) digitally transferred from a host pc onto the MD unit, but not the other way around. Confusion arises because in older versions of Sony SonicStage, music could be checked in and out of the device. When checking out, a copy was made onto MD along with a digital rights licence. The original stayed on the host pc and could only be checked out on three additional devices at any one time. When checking music back in, the device simply erased the digital copy on the MD and transferred the licence data back into the host pc, so that one of the four possible copies was restored and made available for further check-outs. Later SonicStage software abandoned this clumsy "check-in, check-out" process but tracks downloaded onto an MD under the old process could not even be erased from an MD until checked back in again.

There is no hack or modification for this; the hardware and firmware simply is not provided in the MiniDisc system design to allow it.

A later and brief-lived development of the system was the Hi MiniDisc (Hi-MD). This does allow the user to upload material recorded onto the device to a host pc, but still does not allow you to upload material from pre-recorded sources or from your old collection. This is because uploads are possible only when using a dedicated 1GB Hi-MD, when the system uses older legacy MD's it uses different processing circuitry with all the old limitations.

Your only option is analogue transfer in real time. You can improve the quality if you are able to use the optical transfer provided on some models, you'll also find that some models allow you to bypass the output volume circuitry on the headphone jack by setting it to line output. But there is no way to speed up the transfers, sorry.

I hope that you have found my posting to be of use, you may also wish to search my other MiniDisc answers for additional information which you might find to be of further assistance to you. All that I ask in return is that you take a moment to rate my answer.

How do I split up one song on a Tascam DP-02 into more songs?

Hi, I think the proper way to do this should be to copy and paste a section of the track using in and out points to mark the section you would like to copy on to another track but I have been unable to figure this out! very frustrating! However for now I have managed to do it this way (The long way round but it works) say a track that I have 10 or so songs on, I copy it say 10 times (this takes a long time!) When you copy them they show up as the same title. I then rename the original so that i don't mess about with the original! Then I set in and out points previous to the song I want to get to another track and press cut. I then set in and out points after that song and press cut this leaves you with just that song and it is at the begining of the track because cutting closes up the gap. I save and rename this appropriatly. I then do the same for alll the other songs I want with the other copies.!!!!!! Hope this helps, if you work out how to cut and paste please let me know!

I have a Tascam DP-02(not 01) and need to seperate songs

You can use the track edit functions to mark the beginning and end of a song to cut or copy and then insert the song onto its own track(s). (If it's in stereo you'd have it recorded on two tracks).

Or you could consider just exporting the whole track(s) via USB (or using the SF card) onto a PC for editing with the program of your choice.

    Hi MD recording

check out your sharing options on windows media player, DRM can watermark the tracks and make them unusable by other users, or even yourself.
Default is with copy protection, lookmin tools>options>rip music. Almost all audio programs have some version of this available, and only one fair use copy can be made.
