Sounds like it is overheating. Pull the side panel off of it, clean the fan blades and vents. 3am may be the time that it looks for updates.

You may also want to download a free version of Super antispyware as well as malawarebytes, just to make sure you are not infected. These two programs together will remove problems that other virus software will miss!

Let's start with restart the computer. That usually gets everything glitchy to work again. If that doesn't help, hit me back and we'll dig deeper.

Laptop has black screen on startup. what do i do to repair this.

I have a similar problem:

I have a Compaq Presario SR2010NX desktop computer. Recently, very occasionally, the computer would freeze and the screen would scramble. It almost looks like someone chopped up the picture on the screen. Then we would have to manually shut down the computer and restart. It would always work fine afterwards.

Yesterday the computer did it again. It restarted fine but when my boyfriend tried to install a new mouse the computer froze again and the screen went scrambled. Well this time it did not start back up. I tried to unplug the computer from the wall and restart but that got me to the COMPAQ screen and then the computer froze again and the word compaq was doubled all the way down the screen. We continued to try to start it in PC recovery but it would get the the program and freeze. I actually got it to run once but I couldn't see what it was doing because the screen was scrambled.

Now we have restarted it so many times that it will start up, light turns green, and stays green. The computer sounds like its starting up and it seems louder than normal. The computer doesn't do anything and the screen is black. The lights on the keyboard do not turn on but the light in the mouse does. The CD drive will light up and run as well but nothing happens after that. I can't see the cursor and the keyboard does not work.

I opened the computer up, cleaned the dust off, tried to re-install my old RAM and that did not work either. I disconnected the CD drive but that did not work. Tried to start the computer with nothing plugged in except mouse, keyboard and monitor and that did not work.
I don't know what to do! Help!

My Dell Dimension 8440 shut down it self And I can not restart

it is very possible that if the pc has been sitting long enough, that there is dust build up and the processor simply overheated. try opening the side of the cAse and clearing any excess dust. might want to check your connections if possible. computers are not an exact science so strange things can happen!

Unexpected restart

Hello rjblittle

I've seen this problem with dell's before, A/B diagnostic lights appear as as yellow lights is a memory error. Most techs and I have found it to be bad memory. I would suggest replacing the memory or before doing that take the memory out and try it in different memory bank slots to see if that helps.

hope this helps

When we try to turn on the laptop it makes 3-4 beeping sounds and never comes on. The screen stays black.

It could be the RAM. Try taking the Ram out, clean it and the slots it fits into, (with a soft dry paintbrush) then replace it again. If you have more than one Ram stick, put one in first. Then restart your computer, if it does not work, take it out and put the other one in.

If it does work with the first one, then put the other one back in too and try to reboot again.
If it does work but only with one, then the other one is faulty.

Always make sure that you disconnect the computer from the mains before opening it.

I hope this helps
