best advice i can help you with is modernise and fit a aftermarket radio which has usb and sd card support then you will not need the additional CD player in the boot ,old hat now these things when you play a 1 gb sd card and have 30 cds on it .

REMOVING A BMW RADIO TRY TO FIT A PANASONIC CD WILL THE PLUGS FIT

be carefull here and make sure you buy the right adaptor bits as these cars use a speed control to increase volume and if you get it wired up wrong it will cause problems with all sorts of things from autobox gear changes to lights appearing on the dash .but if its an older model you may even find the plug fits into cable end for the new one as they are all universal ,but they will not fit directly into the new one i dont think

WHERE CAN YOU FIND THE CODE FOR YOUR RADIO

Hi,

The code for your radio is usually in with the service documentation and mamufacturers will put it on a card about the size of a credit card. Sometimes the code will be handwritten into one of the owners manuals so leaf through these as well to see if it is present anywhere.

If the code is not to be found in the documentation your local dealer can provide the code from their database but there is usually a charge for doing so. Ford for example charge $30 or Mercedes $60.

If you have a Ford, Fiat or Renault you can try this site which I can recommend. They can decode these types of radios directly from their serial number along with Becker units fitted to BMW, Porsche and Mercedes by request and at a much lower cost than a dealer charges.

Not all makes or radio models can be decoded this way so decoding services are limited to certain radios.

Hope this helps. Any questions just let me know. Thanks for using FixYa.

Have just purchased a cde-100 for an mx3. Does the "mounting sleeve" come with the unit? If so, is it attached to the unit as shipped? I am studying the installation instructions. Are there more explicit...

mounting sleeve is on the radio when you buy it in most of my experiences.

reinforcing the HEAD UNIT-(the cd player itself) with metal straps means that the DIN(the hole the radio goes into in your dash, either single or double) dash piece is probably made of a softer material, and you should mount a small metal strap, usually does not come with the unit, to the units mounting sleeve, and then mount it to the inside of the dashboard of the car with some screws or bolts. this will keep the cd player from moving around, bouncing, etc while you drive over bumps and such.

you could probably get some metal mounting straps either from the box the radio comes in (very few come with them) or get a dash install kit from an auto parts store or a walmart for your car that will probably include all of the things you need including the dash piece, any mounting hardware, and metal straps the factory recommends or deems necessary, and even a wiring harness adapter.
