Just bought brand new Ink, Epson brand and will print all colors except black. I have taken it out and put it back in to recharge and no help and I've cleaned the nozzles and done all the repair. Why can't anything in the world work when you buy it?

Same problem, black ink will not print.

Same story, new black cartridge, but won't print anything black.

I'm having the same problem with the Epson Stylus CX8400 . All colors work.
The ink tests state that all ink levels are at max.

Only thing is that the black ink is about a year old. The colors were just replaced.

I thought the black ink may have dried up, so I pushed it in with a bobby pin and it pushed into something and ink came out. So I know the ink is flowing.

How did you put alcohol in inside the printer where you insert the ink cartridges? I put the alcohol on a qtip and then dried it and it still won't print the black ink. The ink is full in the cartridge but it is not going onto the paper.

I have a Stylus CX 5000 with a new black ink cartrige and empty color cartriges. I only need black/white printed material. It won't print at all. What can I do to make it print just black and white...

Epson software does not permit printing when any of the cartridges are empty. It is a way to make sure you purchase more ink (It stinks, we all agree). They also use the color cartridges to make up black ink, then print the black over the top!! Again a way to make sure it uses more ink than it is supposed to.
Good thing is there are plenty of compatibles on the market that work very well and cost much less than Epson OEM's.
Sorry it is not the answer you are looking for.

Did you use Epson Genuine Cartridges?

ALL…. Epson & Brother Requires Genuine Epson Cartridges. !!!!!!!!
That sounds like your problem.

In Purchasing Epson's CX 5400, CX4600, & CX7400 and more, I found out that Epson does not like Generic Printer Cartridges. I also Purchased a Brother. That also does not like Generic Print Cartridges. Color that should be Yellow, will turn out Green, Blue Brown, etc.

These printers have a CHIP that will detect if it is Generic or Genuine. When they see it’s Generic Cartridges, it will print lines thru the words, stripes across the picture and also do a mix match with the colors. It also will not let you print anything, if only one of the cartridges is empty.

I wanted to print only Black, and would not let me, because I did not have any ink in one of my cyan cartridges. Go figure.

That's what these Companies do., so they can keep selling the ink cartridges. Some Printers, are able to use Generic, and some are refillable. Some you can refill them up yourself and I heard, quite MESSY.

So I learned, thru trial and error, that you must use the ORIGINAL Genuine Cartridges for these PRINTERS. Some people say some models work fine compatible, but not mine.......

I had to replace the printer, but Epson, Lexmark & Brothers are always on sale. My Brother & Epson cost me $50.00 with Rebate. .

This is the only advice I can give you. If you find this helpful, pls rate me.

Thanks and Good Luck :0)

Epson cx5500 prints only with black cartridge???

Yes it will still print with black provided that your computer still detects the colored cartridge tanks. If you are certain that there is still some ink left on the colored ones, take them one by one and shake them hard as if you are trying to distribute the ink evenly. After that, you need to do a test print to utilize the colored inks.

Epson Stylus DX 8400

Hi,

It sounds like you have incompatible cartridges for your printer... Some folks have reported that disabling the Status monitor and turning the printer off/on, plus rebooting the computer can solve this but that's just something I've heard.

You may want to double check with the ink supplier that they have provided the correct cartridges for your DX rather than a CX model.

Poor quality or no color in print or scan mode

# Hold the cartridge upside down, with the bar-code label facing you and take a damp paper towel. If cart as the print head separate then remove the print head and follow the procedure ...
# Use the towel to wipe the printhead of the cartridge on the bottom (where the ink comes out). Wipe the printhead horizontally in one direction only (left to right).
# Continue doing this until it looks clean.
# Then dab the cartridge on the towel to make sure the ink is flowing.
# Next, look inside the printer and locate the carrier that holds ink cartridges. Caution: Make sure the cartridges are not installed at this point.

1. Look for a shiny piece of metal underneath the contacts at the back of the carrier.
2. Take a damp cotton swab (use water only!) and wipe along the bottom of the shiny metal piece. Note: You may need more than one swab.

# Reinstall the cartridges, making sure you snap them correctly into the printer.

New out of box!!

If you already have tried reseating all of the inks and and inks are still not recognized, Please contact Epson tech support for a replacement ink or if they find out after some diagnostics that it is the printer that is having an issue they would be replacing your printer.
