I have a video editing system at home for my Cannon. Its called Pinnacle Studio. It uses a firewire or DV cable to copy the tape to the hard drive. Once it's in there you can make dvd menus and burn it to dvd or you can convert it into other video formats and post them on services like you tube. Here is one I did last night:

Horizontal equally spaced black bars accross the screen when in playback mode similar to looking through partially opened venetian blinds.

You may need to clean the head on the device. You can purchase head cleaning tapes from most stores that sell the tapes, or goto a specialist camera shop.
Failing that, open the tape slot, tape the tape out, and with a soft cloth see if you can clean the small silver heads very gently.

My camcorder is spoilt and I am left with many mini DV tapes which I cannot download to the PC without the camcorder. Is there any solution for this?

since it is in digital format a standered VCR wont read them the hi-8 tapes have a bigger VCR tape you can put the hi-8 tape in and insert that into a VCR but the hi-8 is an analog tape and.mini-DV is digital "DV = Digital Video" so a standard VCR wont read them the only way is to borrow a friends Mini-DV camera and copy all your tapes over. they do make a Mini-DV player but even the cheap ones cost more than a new camcorder would! Sorry to hear about your camcorder I hope this helps

Canon elura 90: won't load tapes

Make sure the power is on this unit and you are pluged into a good source of power. The disk tray needs power to lower. A lot of tapes get loose in there case and need to be fast forwarded and then rewound completely in order to help spool them properly in their case. And what you are experiencing sounds a lot like this. It is also possible that you need to buy a head cleaning unit for your elura and run it in the camera for 10 secs and then try again. (Did you try this with a New tape? or just used ones?) We bought a small tape rewinding unit for around 39 dollars that helps us to rewind the mini DV tapes without adding wear and tear on our camera and it seems to help with the issue of loose tapes in the camera getting rejected as they won't wrap around the tape head as nice.

Hi, When you say you're "using a tape for a while", can you define "while"? The thing about these little cameras is that they don't like to re-use DV tapes. If you are recording over tapes that have previously been recorded on, then your camera could be fussy about that. You can clean the heads, but if the tape is dirty, then it will transfer that dirt back to the heads and youp;ll end up in the same position. The problem is, that the heads will wear out if you clean them to often. In the long run, it's best to use new, clean tapes. And when you are using the tape cleaner, make sure you are following the directions very carefully. NewMediaMan
