Question about Yamata FY920
I was sewing a double thickness of fabric and the needle broke. It was very difficult to get the needle back up and it was caught in the casing on the bottom. I was able to loosen the inner knob on the hand wheel to get it up, but now the hand wheel turns when I push the pedal, but the needle will not go up and down. Do you have any idea what could be the matter? I really appreciate any advice you can give. Thank you.
Tighten the inner knob on hand wheel to make the needle move up and down.

SOURCE: The serger is not sewing
It sounds as though you have a timing problem. The lower looper is not catching the needle thread. You might try lowering the needle about 1/16 inch to see if the looper will catch the thread. If that works, you can put the needle back and adjust the needle bar. If it doesn't, then you need to take it to a technician.

SOURCE: my needle broke all of a sudden
The needle might not have been fully seated and tightened down - or vibrated loose and dropped down a bit and got hit by the bobbin shuttle. My mom used to soap or wax her needles (lower by hand into a candle or bar of Ivory) to sew stuff like DUCK, Burlap or thick denim.
Try thisusing a new needle (they're cheap) but be SURE that needle is all the way up into the carrier ;-)
