- More clarification of the problem - when I check the 'Device Manager' the CD/DVD drive does not even show up as an installed item. Yet when you put in a disk, the little light on the drive goes on and off, you can hear the drive spinning the disk, so I know it is physically connected and has power. I hope that this gives more clarification - if not please let me know, and thnaks again for your help.

You can check the BIOS to see if the drive is recognized and even attempt to boot from the drive using a bootable CD to verify it is functional (if using the Windows disc - just verify it reads - DO NOT REINSTALL)

If the drive works use the following to get the drive back in Windows:

Always backup your registry before editing and use care to find exact key!
Start Registry Editor (Start, Run and type in regedit then click)

Find "UpperFilters" and "LowerFilters" (and "UpperFilters.bak" "LowerFilters.bak", if they exist) value under the following key in the registry, and delete it:

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Class\{4D36E965-E325-11CE-BFC1-08002BE10318}

Quit Registry Editor.

Reboot.

NOTE: You might need to reinstall any CD recording apps you have, if they start to not work completely, after doing this.

Hi, check if hardware detection of drive in bios is ok, you may have to set detection to auto.
If that works, boot up properly, reinstall drivers.

It also may be that the power supply is working but the internal data-cable has become loose.
This means opening up the laptop, removing the drive and reattaching it to the mainboard
If You aren*'t a 100 percent sure what you're doing, refer to manual(paper or data) first, then proceed.

perhaps u can locate your laptop's manual here:

(the T2050 is pretty new, i don't know if toshiba already has downloadable content for it)

good luck
