Yes, replace the knob and it should work unless the knob was damaged by something that also damaged the switch.

Hi
you will prob find the knob for the dryer has broken
so you turn the knob but it doesn't turn the switch
remove the knob which just pushes on and pulls off
and look at the shaft of the knob you may see it has cracked
if you do just replace the knob and you should be fine

How to replace the timer on a Kenmore 90 series washing machine?

The timer on a washing Kenmore washing machine is the brains of the unit. The timer controls how long the clothes are to be washed, rinsed, spun and dried. The timer is located behind the timer knob in the main control panel. If the timer fails, it can be replaced with just a few hand tools.
1 Unplug the washing machine's cord from the electrical outlet.
2 Remove the two screws securing the main-panel end caps with a Phillips-head screwdriver. Lift the main panel up and rotate it backward so the inside of the panel is exposed. If your model does not have end caps, slide a putty knife between the main panel and the washing machine's top, then pry up to free the panel from its retaining clips.
3 Turn the knob by hand from one side while looking at the back of the timer from the other side. You should see the timer knob's shaft turning. Grasp the black plastic locking tab in the center of the timer knob's shaft with a pair of needle-nose pliers and pull it out. You should feel a click.
4 Pull the timer knob off of its shaft. You may need to hold the locking tab with the pliers as you do this. Remove the trim plate from under the knob.
5 Unplug the wiring connector from the back of the timer. Remove the screws securing the timer to the main panel with a nut driver and remove the timer.
6 Install the new timer into the panel and secure it with the screws, using a nut driver. Install the timer's trim plate and wire connector.
7 Install the knob onto the timer's shaft. Make sure the locking tab is still pulled out before installing the knob. Once the knob is pushed onto the shaft, hold the knob with one hand while pushing the locking tab in from the other side. You should feel it click into position.
8 Reinstall the main panel and end caps, if applicable. Plug in the electrical cord and run the washer on various wash and rinse cycles to test that the timer is working.

Things You Will Need
  • Phillips-head screwdriver
  • Putty knife
  • Nut driver
  • Needle-nose pliers
  • Timer

Warning
  • Pulling or installing the timer knob without first pulling the locking tab can break the tab, the shaft or the knob.

We have a Maytag toploading washer (SAV4655AWW). The stem holding the knob for the water level broke off. I think I need to replace the entire switch. Is this something I can do myself?

Yes you can do it.
For now just turn it with a plier until you buy a new knob or get one from another washer machine go to the lockal repair shoppe or the salvage place to get a replacement.

Gets stuck in cycle I have to turn the knob to get it to continue. The machine is the heavy duty large capacity I can't find a model #

Looks like you need a timer. If the model number is really gone there should be a part number n the timer. look everywhere around the door/lid and even on the back. Eric

Hello, from the limited information I have this sounds like it's going to be a broken coupling. Kenmores are usually direct drive machines made by whirlpool, this means they don't have a belt. Instead the transmission is connected directly to the motor via a coupling. This is what a coupleing looks like: 0c6b869.jpg To confirm this pull the machine forward enough that you can lean it back and it will stand back under it's own weight. Wedge something underneath the chasis so it does not fall on you while your accessing the bottom. Go under the Machine and locate the motor, You will see the pump connected to the motor connected to the transmission. 1. Unplug the wire harness from the motor then. 2. Use a screw driver remove the 2 clips holding the pump in place and remove or push the pump out of the way. 3. You will need to remove the 2 screws from the brackets holding the Motor in place with a nut driver. 4. With a screwdriver remove the 2 clips holding the motor in place (be carefull to support the motor as the clips comes off) 5. remove the motor and drop it onto the floor. Now you will see the coupling..one side on the motor the other side on the transmission the rubber connector inbetween. Replace the coupling if broken or worn and reassemble the washer in reverse order. Now you should be all set. Be aware you may smell rubber on the first couple loads this is normal after replacing a coupling. Good Luck!! if you have any other questions or concerns please feel free to comment again. Washer control knob just spins

The knob is prob stripped, very common for this washer.
Get it off and look at the teeth. To remove the knob you need a pair of surgical pliers. Reach behind the knob and yank the retaining clip out. If the teeth are smooth you need to replace the knob. Oil the timer so it will be easier to turn by the way. To put the new knob you simply slide it in place with the clip on it. So easy you won't believe it.

Check your pressure switch.

First of all, unplug your washer. You will need to remove the console in order to get to the pressure switch. The washer may have release tabs under the console at each front corner. Simply slide a putty knife straight in from the front at each corner and push in while lifting up. You should feel the release tabs push in and the console will pop up. If not equipped with this type of console, you may have a console that has removable end caps. They can be removed by gently prying up on the top of them from the rear on each side. You may have to use a small screwdriver for this. The caps should pop right off. Once removed, you will need to loosen a screw under each cap. And, still there are some of the older models that have screws holding the console in place from the back. Once you have the console loosened, carefully lift it up and lay it back over the rear panel of the washer in its resting position. Be careful not to damage the small plastic hinges that hold it in place.

The pressure switch will be located behind the load level selector knob. Make sure the air hose is still attached. Often, this hose comes loose and falls off. This will prevent the lid switch from sensing the pressure from the wash tub as the water fills. The result: washer fills continuously until it overflows. Looks like a major problem, when its not. Reattach the hose. To keep the hose form sliding off again, you can take a small zip-tie and place it snugly around the hose where it connects to the pressure switch. This will create enough resistance to prevent the hose from falling off in the future. CAUTION: DO NOT over-tighten the zip tie as you can crack or damage the pressure switch. Just enough to make it snug.

If the air hose is still attached, check the electrical connections to ensure the connector plug is making contact and/or not corroded. If everything checks out, replace the pressure switch. If need further assistance, please post back and let me know.

I hope this helps you.

Why is the fault F18 error code on my bosch washing machine flashing?

Open the small flap at the front bottom right of the machine. DONT unscrew the circular white knob yet!!! Use the small black hose to drain the machine into a tray, by removing the small cap on the end of the hose. You will have to use a tray, rather than a bowl because the hose is only short, and keep emptying the tray.(put a washing up bowl next to the machine, so you don't have to carry the tray.) If water does not come out of the hose, then gently unblock it with a piece of wire or fine knitting needle. When water finally stops coming out of the hose, it is time to gently unscrew the white knob anti-clockwise, and pull it forwards. Now you can clear the debris out of the pump rotor, which is behind the white knob. Check with your finger that it can rotate freely, then replace the white knob firmly. Make sure the small cap is replaced on the end of the hose, clip it back into place and put back the cover panel. If this doesn't work then there is a blockage deeper in the machine, and dismantling will be required. Good Luck!!
