From the description of your problem it sounds as if your yeast is weak or you are not using enough or there was not enough sugar to feed the yeast. Here is another site with recipes but also offers a tip chart that you may find useful:
Hi, A bread machine made 14 years ago was of very high quality. Black & Decker does not make bread machines anymore, but buys them in a foreign country and slaps the Black & Decker name on it. The program may be different, the heating element may have changed, and possibly the paddle size and time of kneading and cycle times could have have changed. You will have to experiment some more ( I know you have, and it's expensive and frustrating) to change settings to try and make it work for you. Talk to your friends who may have a bread machine and try it on theirs, or give me the recipe and I'll try it on my Sunbeam...that would be interesting. Hank
Your machine may not be as old, but if you visit this website and read some other models instruction manual, you might find the answer right there. Please visit: http://www.scribd.com/doc/261890/Complete-Welbilt-Bread-Machine-Manuals
Thanks for asking FixYa and hope this helps.
go to breadmakerpartsemporium.ioffer.com they have what you are looking for at the cost of about $10.00. I was looking for same and came across their page when I typed "recipes sanyo SBM-20 breadmaker"
6 heaped tablespoons whole meal
2 heaped tablespoons strong white
2/3 Teaspoons dark brown sugar
A healthy squeeze of tomato puree (adds ascorbic acid and makes the bead last longer)
Pinch of salt
about 3grams dried yeast
select "dough" (9 on mine)
When the program end bake in an oven at gas mark 5
I have never really been satisfied with a square loaf with the paddle hole in it. Also the bread ends up really heavy. I think this is because the bread sweats rather than bakes
The bread-maker is also easier to clean after just making dough, it produces better dough than i can by hand and the machine gets on with it while i can do something else!
