Question about Hoover Refrigerators
Hoover HCS46 Fridge freezer with chilled pure water filter (normally chilled). motor did seem to be making a bit more noise than usual and basically now the fridge, freezer and chilled water dont work at all. Fridge still powers on, water filter dispenses water but at normal temp and motor sounds like it is getting power but nothing gets cold. None of the pipes coming in/out the motor seem to be cold. Motor is marked with electrolux HYK12AA (R600A). Pretty sure motor is the problem just looking for confirmation. Are these seviceable as it looks like solder connections. approx cost for replacement part +labour.CheersPete
check the relay, the clicking noise is your overload tripping out on overload, the run winding of the compressor are not coming on line, if your relay is good, the ohm out your compressor.

Dave, what you are hearing is the overload kicking out on the compressor. It's one of two things, either the compressor is failing or PTC (overload, relay) is going bad. I haven't seen too many PTC's fail on Frigidaire, but I have seen a lot of compressors failing. Your refrigerator will have a 5 year warranty, parts and labor if the compressor is at fault. You would have to do some tests on the compressor to determine which one is at fault. If you have a clamp on ammeter you can see how many amps the compressor is drawing during start and run. The compressor should have a label on it with the amperage information. You could just replace the PTC, part number 218721119 and see if the problem goes away but you could be throwing away money here if the compressor is the problem. With out being there, my guess would be the compressor itself. Catriver...post back.

We had the same issues with the water freezing and called a technician out. He added some extra insulation installed around the water lines inside the refrigerator and we also keep our frig at 40 degrees Fahrenheit, slightly above the manufacturers default setting. Hope this helps.
