Question about Linksys EtherFast Cable/DSL Router

Losing Ports on Linksys BEFSR41 v.3

Every so often, I lose ports 2-4 on this router. Port 1 seems to be reliable. I have the latest firmware (1.05). I have reset and loaded default, still have intermittent problem, though when I plug and unplug it works fine until it happens again.

Try a different wall plug power supply. The power supply that comes with this unit is very unreliable and unstable when loaded.

Error 800: Unable to establish VPN connection

This issue may be caused by a router that has outdated firmware.

Make sure that port 1723 is opened on your router.
For VPN connection , you can try opening port 500, 443-447, 10000-20000 and important port 1723 on your router.

I will suggest you to upgrade firmware on your Linksys router.
After upgrading the firmware, reset the router to factory default and reconfigure it manually.
Open the ports mentioned above and see if that works.

Solution for War Craft 3 behind Linksys routers.........

As the application requires certain ports to be opened on the router, try to follow the steps below to configure the router. Since you are connecting behind the router, you are going behind a NAT firewall. Therefore, you would need to allow ports for the remote access application to go through the firewall. You would need to know what port number application uses. You can check with the program manufacturer for the information, or see the Help menu.

For routers with old firmware versions (without the Cisco web interface):

1.Open Internet Explorer.
2.After "Internet Explorer" opens, please typehttp://192.168.1.1 into the "Address Bar" and click GO.
3.The "Enter Network Password" window will appear. Skip username and type admin (admin is the default password) as the password, and click OK.
4.You will need to click on the Advanced tab to the very right. Once the "Filters" area appears, please click on the Forwarding tab.
5.Once the "Forwarding" area appears, click the Port Triggering button. Once you've done this, a new window will appear.Enter the ports needed to be opened > Click Apply

For later firmware (that has the Cisco web interface)

1.Open Internet Explorer.
2.After "Internet Explorer" opens, please typehttp://192.168.1.1 into the "Address Bar" and click GO.
3.The "Enter Network Password" window will appear. Skip username and type admin (admin is the default password) as the password, and click OK.
4.Click on "Applications and Gaming" then click on the "Port Triggering" Sub tab. Enter the ports needed to be opened >Click Save Settings.

Example:

Customized Trigger Port Range Incoming Port Range
Application From ~ To From ~To
WARCRAFT 6112-6112 6112-6112
WARCRAFT 6113-6119 6113-6119

Hope this help everyone that has problem with the game.

Hardwire ports on wireless router not working

You could

1) Reset the router to factory default by hitting the reset on back

2) You could visit the router over the wireless link (http://192.168.1.1) default password is "admin" username blank.

Check on the page to ensure the ports are enabled.

3) Update the firmware on the device. see if it works.

Note there is a port called "uplink" which is designed for the internet connection and not the local computer.

Ps 3 linksys 160n problem

Hi Friend,

In order to use PS3 we need to open few ports. Kindly follow the steps:

1.Open the internet explorer and type 192.168.1.1 and hit enter.
2. If you have not changed the default password of the router then kindly leave blank the username box and in the password box type admin and hot enter.
3.In the setup page click Application and Gaming
4. Under that click Port Range Forwarding.

Below are the port numbers which we need to open for PS3

TCP:
80
443
5223
UDP:

3478
3479
3658

Now please type these port number in start and end port. Please make sure start and end port has to be the same.

First enter the TCP ports in first three boxes and then UDP ports in next three boxes.

Save the settings and turn off the router for 10 seconds and restart again.

Enjoy.

Chiranjeet

Linksys WRT160N Connection Issues.

Sadly, this router has horrible reviews and is known for this problem:

http://www.newegg.com/Product/ProductReview.aspx?Item=N82E16833124277

Can you return it for another model?
Can you getLinksys to replace it?

the best one is the LINKSYS WRT54GL, but if you are stuck with the one you have...

If you have tried all these things and you are very brave (or don't care if you need to buy another router) why not try flashing it with an after market O/S?

2 0f 4 ports do not work

It sounds as though the ports on the cable/dsl router as bad. There really isn't anything you can do. It just happens. The typical shelf life of those routers is about 3-4 years. You could go out and buy another one or if you just need more ports go out and buy a little 5 port switch and plug it into one of the working ports and your comptuers into the 5 port switch.
