Question about Hitachi 36FX49B 36" TV

1 Answer

Vertical problem I own a Hitachi 36fx49b t.v. set. Recently the t.v. has a horizontal, bright line through the middle of the screen and no picture. The set is too old to hire a t.v. repairman so I would appreciate any input or solution that a knowledgeable do-it-yourselfer, like me, could use, to fix the problem.

Re: vertical problem

Joel, you may be a knowledgeable do-it-yourselfer, but do you know solid stae Electronics servicing. From the description of your problem, it looks like the Vertcal oscillator / output IC has failed. If you knoe S S Electronics, replace.

it could be an electrolytic capacitor or the vertical output I.C. in the vertical circuitry,if you remove the rear cover tap on the board in different places and see if the picture fills out or atleast jitters like it might fill out,then it could be just a cold solder joint,then remove the main board and resolder all joints and this should repair the condition you have

TV: bright line across black screen for several hours.

vertical output ic needs to be resoldered. careful leaving that bright line displayed on the screen as this will cause a permanent phosphor burn into the tube. this can not be corrected once burned unless you replace the tube. mch

Horizontal lines on picture

Can't advise on entering setup but the lines may be due to the maladjustment of the brightness control on the flyback. There will normally be two adjusters, one for focus the other for brightness.

Toshiba 32A14 horizontal line

This symptom is characterized by a thin horizontal line in the middle of the screen. This symptom is caused by the absence of the deflection sawtooth current in the horizontal deflection coil.
The trouble is easily isolated by a continuity test and by checking the most likely defective components such as A)open vertical linearity compensation transformer, B) open capacitor and C) open horizontal deflection coil.
Be sure to decrease the brightness first before trouble-shooting if the line is very bright,as it burn the phosphor screen..

Hope this may help;

Tv not working

this symptom, sometimes called the tube light effect, it is characterised by a bright thin horizontal line across the middle of the screen. this symptom is caused by a breakdown in the vertical deflection circuit. hence maybe the trouble maybe in the vertical oscillator, amplifier or output circuits. but if all i have said is not clear to you, better bring it to a qualified tv technician. good luck!

No Picture On Screen and red line in middle.

The set has a vertical problem if the line you mention is from side to side ,if the line is from top to bottom the problem is in the horizontal circuit and both can be repairable,a vertical fairlure is a common problem,the vertical IC goes bad and it takes a safety resistor with him to prevent any more damage,the horizontal is rare but it happens too,if you are familiar with tv service you can change the IC but you will need a service manual to identify the part,you can get a manual overnight if you downloaded it at,if you are not too familiar you should seek the help of a servicer for safety reasons.Let Us know how it goes or if you need more information.
