If the evaporator coil is frozen over, then most likely the defrost terminator is bad its located on the top of the evaporator coil and is about 1" round,to test it it needs to be below 15 degrees as this is a bi-metal switch operated by temperature,it will show close to zero ohms when its cold if its good, otherwise the defrost heating element can be open its located under the evaporator coil, but its a calrod element and they usually dont go bad,you can check this with an ohmmeter also and will have anywhere from 20 to 75 ohms,if these are both ok,then the defrost timer or ADC automatic defrost timer can be bad depending on which system your unit incorporatesl

How to troubleshoot a frozen evap coil on a hussman rfln5 ,I have several doing the same thing at differant stores and there all only 3 yrs old

  1. Refrigerant charge: If the refrigerant charge is too low, the evaporator coil will not absorb heat effectively, causing the coil to freeze.
  2. Airflow: If airflow across the evaporator coil is restricted, the coil will freeze. This could be caused by dirty air filters, clogged condenser coils, or fan failure.
  3. Defrost system: If the defrost system is not functioning properly, the evaporator coil may freeze. This could be due to a faulty defrost timer, a defective defrost thermostat, or a clogged drain line.
  4. Compressor: If the compressor is not running properly, it may not be able to pump refrigerant through the evaporator coil, causing the coil to freeze.
To troubleshoot a frozen evaporator coil, you should start by checking the refrigerant charge and verifying that the unit has proper airflow. If the refrigerant charge is low, you should have it recharged by a licensed HVAC technician. If the airflow is restricted, clean the air filters and check the condenser coils for any blockages. If the defrost system is not working properly, replace the defrost timer or thermostat, and clean the drain line. If the compressor is not running, it may need to be replaced

Samsung "Cool-n-cool" fridge freezer defrosting food

Is it "defrosting" the food or unable to keep it frozen? Probably unable to keep frozen. Many possible problems. 1. Defrost element bad and evaporator coil is iced over, or 2. Failed evaporator fan inside freezer, or 3. Low freon causing iced up evaporator coil....Do you see any ice build up on the back wall of freezer? Do you hear the freezer fan running or not? Take a look and get back to me.

A/c unit frozen up

Hello, the AC will freeze up either due to low airflow such as a dirty filter, dirty evaporator coil, weak blower motor or a low refrigerant charge.

The ice maker has quit and the condensor coils have frozen up

I think you mean the evaporator coils have frozen. When this happens the temperature rises above 12* F recommended for the ice maker to work.

The freezer fills with water and overflows about once a week. The food is partially frozen and the ice is clear and wet. The fridge is cold and no problems but the freezer doesn't fully freeze and water...

your evaporator coil in the rear area behind the freezer back panel is frozen over with ice and the coil can no longer deliver cold air due to ice blocking the air flow from the evaporator fan, remove this rear panel, defrost it with a hair dryer, check the defrost heating coil for continuity, they go bad regularly,if not the heater coil under the evaporator coil,it may be the defrost timer in the refrigerator section of the unit that powers the defrost coil that needs replacement

Ive got a tappen refridgerator that is not getting cold

is the freezer getting cold if so you may need to check and see is the evaporator fan in the freezer compartment is running.the evaporator may be frozen over and not allowing cold air to flow through it.if the fan is not running replace it if the evaporator fan is running and the evaporator is frozen over you have a defrost heater isssue such as a defrost timer or temp sensor. if neither compartment is cold you have a bad compressor

Amana heat/air conditioning pump

You are going to have to increase the amount of heat absorbed by the evaporator coil on the indoor section of your system. First change the filter. Second turn the power off to the outdoor section and leave the indoor fan running until all the ice on the evaporator coil has thawed this could take a few hours. Third you need to verify that you are getting adequate airflow across the indoor evaporator coil and the outdoor condenser coil both fans should be spinning at full speed and airflow should be unobstructed by dirty coil fins or debris Hopefully after you've done this you will have cold air blowing inside and the larger of the two lines entering the unit outside will be cool to the touch but not frozen or even frosted regardless of run time and the small one should be the slightly warm but not hot. If the larger line continues to freeze then it could indicate a number of problems but essentially your condensers cooling capacity is outrunning your evaporator coils ability to absorb heat from air stream circulating in your home.Hope it works out for you GL!
