I have aGWH 425 HN Bosch Tankless Water Heater. This am I do not have any water on the hot side. It did get cold here last night in the teens but last week it was 5 or 7 degrees and no problems. What do I do, I am single so hopefully it will be simple.

I have had the same problem with mine just last night. After seeing your post, I believe our Bosch units are frozen from sub-zero drafts into the vent.

I also have plenty of cold water, but no flowing, let alone warm water out the hot side. I've got a propane heater thawing it right now. We'll see what happens.

We have the same problem. Have a heater on it. Would be nice to know this could be an issue before it happens so we could take precautions.

We heated up the pipes slowly, then actually gently hit the unit which broke up the ice and low and behold we got hot water!!!

Thanks - I finally got hot water so I guess it was frozen.

Where is the water heater located? Inside or outside? In the garage or in the house? on an outside wall?

I had them same problem with my AquaStar 125 back in 2005......it hasn't been that could around here since then until last night and it froze up again. The problem is the negative draft. This can be solved with the Power Vent Module and the AQ1 flapper....at least with the 125. It prevents the back drafts.

Bosch gwh 425 hn

Fix problem immediately same day, yourself, for $385, by replacing whole thing:
http://waterheatertimer.org/How-to-install-gas-water-heater.html
Bosch posts some service manuals: or contact Bosch. Lack of error code indicates failed PC board? or bad single-handle faucet cartridge?
http://waterheatertimer.org/Troubleshoot-Bosch-Tankless-water-heater.html
Check for crossover where bad faucet cartridge allows cold water to enter hot pipe, so hot water is not drawn through tankless and burner does not activate... but this might not be problem since you hear the tankless clicking
http://waterheatertimer.org/Crossover.html
Call local service technician to catch up on required yearly maintenance.

I have a Bosch GWH 425 HNO propane Tankless Water Heater which began intermittently exploding when demand for hot water occurs.

Call a qualified service tech immediately.
Gas explosion indicates dirty combustion parts, and gas is not fully igniting when tankless turns on the gas. So gas builds up and then explodes causing serious damage to tankless, and serious risk to homeowner.

Water temp flucuates from hot to cold, esspedially on very rainy days.

Gas water heater problem based on weather could imply atmospheric interference, which might indicate venting problem. Check vent specs for that model. Make sure roof or side wall vent are installed correctly, and lenghts do not exceed maximum.
Problem might also be associated with elevation setting, since water heaters are sold to match expected conditions at that elevation.
If rain is associated with cooler temperatures, and more gas appliances run at same time, then unit might be starved for gas or home does not have enough ventilation.
Problem could also indicate that tankless unit needs to catch up on yearly maintenance, including clean burner and combustion parts, check loose wiring, test ignition system, clean air intake, bleed gas line, check gas pressure and check for correct vent, etc.
Before calling service technician, open following link for Bosch troubleshooting resources including Bosch contact, typical manuals, etc.

Possible flow sensor issue. Check to see if your water pressure fluctuates a lot or is fairly steady. These units are sensitive to the pressure. take care.

Water turns cold very quickly

I had the EXACT same problem (installed my tankless last winter and worked fine, now this summer it fluctuates, have to turn the shower completely off and then on again to get any hot water and then it only lasts for a couple of minutes!) Argh - it is frustrating!

Here's what I found: the demand for hot water is lower during the summer (hot) months because the "cold" water coming in is already quite warm. You don't need as much hot water to make the shower temp comfortable. SO, my tankless was shutting off due to low flow demand. I've removed the flow restrictor from my shower head and it helped alot but didn't completely solve the prob. Next step is what has been recommended to me by several people but is much more expensive - change the pressure valve on your shower to a temperature valve. Or just wait til winter and it should work ok again :)

I have the same problem with the same model. The problem has been identified by a friend of mine, correctly, I think.
This is a very dangerous problem involving Bosch's much touted safety feature, ironically enough. IT IS THE FLAME SENSOR IN THE GAS VALVE. The flame sensor is supposed to confirm that the pilot has lighted BEFORE the main gas line sends gas to the main burners, after which the pilot shuts off. The pilot light is not coming on, the sensor that shouldn't let gas fto the main burners is failing and the main gas is flowing and ignighting from the spark that is supposed to light only the pilot in a big explosion.
This is the 2nd unit of this model that has failed. I think Bosch should do a recall

Water will not stay hot

The cold main water pressure is too low to maintain a constant flow. Make sure you have no other appliences on, or your not comprimised by the lowering of pressure

I'd initially check for a cross connection (cold water leaking into hot water system). This can be done by shutting off the cold water feed to the tankless unit, then opening up hot water fixtures around the home. You should see the water come to a complete stop; if you see a steady stream of water, then you have a cross connection. The most common place for a cross connection is at single handled showers. The valve cartridge starts to fail over time.
