got the BDP-S350 for Christmas , palyed the first disk fime for about 20 minutes then stopped and now won't play any discs and keeps saying " Ext Memory in EXT jack on rear of unit not recognised. Check ext memory, turn power off, then on again". I haven't touched the EXT memory and have tried rebooting and resetting on set-up but nothing happens.

Same here, no disc will play. The front of the player reads "No Disc" before the home menu comes up. This happens for Blu-Ray and DVD. I've tried installing external memory, but I have no luck there, either. I can no longer use this player. Can anyone help?

    I have the same problem.

A brand new BDP-S350 Blu-Ray player. I just spent an hour with a tech and he says it's an isloated problem :)

"ext memory in EXT jack on rear of unit not recognized. Check ext memory, turn power off, and then on again."

What is the EXT jack for? Apparenlty you need extra memory to view Blu-Ray extra's and to use Blu-Ray Live ... whatever that is. Sounds like they've goofed up these units...

Did the Live Chat with Sony, and they said if you reset the unit (unplug it for a minute and plug it back in) that should fix the issue. If it does not (in my case, it did nothing) the unit needs to be sent in for service. I'm taking mine back to the store in hopes for a refund. Good luck!

OKAY so here is what you do. Grab the 1GB stick that came with your player. Stick it into your USB drive on your computer. Wait until it loads, then right click on the drive (from My Computer for your PC users) and then FORMAT (to defaults).

Once its formatted, stick it back into the EXT jack and I'm not sure if this helps (but it was part of the process that worked for me), turn your players Standby Mode (in System Settings menu) to "Normal" not the "Quick Start" option.

Pull the power plug (not just the power button) for a minute, then re-plug it back in. Worked for me!

Good Luck.

Ext Memory in EXT jack on rear of unit not recognised. Check ext memory, turn power off, then on again - mine's done the same thing yesterday with an old bluray DVD ,and after googleing it nothing seemed to work - how can can you update it when the ****** says -NO DISC - it couldn't read the Sony upgrade CD-R either. I've got mad and I've pulled the ****** appart - guess what ?
The dvd drive - the motor that spins the disc had it - could see and hear the lasers tracking back and forth but the disc never span.If you listen carefully you can tell if the dvd is spining without pulling the ****** to bits but I had to make sure - So ..sorry ..buy another Blu-ray player..

Okay Apprentice turkey. First I'm having the same problem, except it worked yesterday on the same disk. Second, I don't have ext memory and never have. Third, it still works on regular disks. We unplugged, shut down and still come up with the same problem with all my regular BD disks.

You are trying to play a bonus disc, so you need to use external memory. Get sony USM1GH flash memory. It goes into the EXT slot. You can play the movie disc with out this...it's for bonus material.

Every blu ray or dvd player sold in the world comes as standard unlocked to play any disc from any region. On the fifth play of a disc the DVD or Bluray will become locked to that region. So if you play 5 USA dvd's on the player after the fifth disc has been played only US dvd's will be recognised by the player, Same applies to BLUrays. So if i were you i would be careful about what discs you are putting in the player. Otherwise you will be left with a bluray player that cannot be used in Australia. After that happens the only way to play other region discs would be to get the player unlocked. Another point to add , a blueray player has two lasers one to play bluray and another to play DVD's. Lasers can fail so you could be able to play DVD's but not Bluray or vice versa depending on which laser has failed.

A new "Tangled" movie disc not play in Blu-Ray

As newer bluray movies come out they are constantly tweeking the format. More then likely you need to update your bluray players firmware or software. There should be an option under the menu for the bluray player to update the unit of course this will require that you have it hooked into the internet via ethernet cable or wifi network.

If you can, connect the unit to your network with a lan jack and check for updates. more than likely it's a software update. Run a disc cleaner thru it as well. hope this helps.

My Magnavox bluray disc player NB500MG9 will not play bluray dvds. Please help

My Blu-Ray will not play x disc
A Blu-ray player can play DVD or CD and still not play Blu-ray. It may play Blu-ray but not CD or DVD, or burned discs. This is all caused by the 'optical' a part that reads the disc in the machine. Your player will need service as a Blu-ray optic cannot just be 'dropped' into a player.

I had the same issue. it is not recognizing the disc. I called in and I am having to send it in for servicing. The message you are getting is because the only option you are getting is the BD data one and not the one to play the disc.
