Once you have removed filter, either replace or clean out with vacuum or simply blowing out the dust
Option 2: if you have used the projector for over 1500 hours, there is a good chance the lamp is close to the end of its life cycle. Check to see if the lamp replacement light is on; it is just below the power button on the unit.
If you are feeling adventurous, you can take out the lamp by following the instructions on page 86 of the manual: http://www.wrcs.k12.mi.us/Technology/How%20Tos/Ceiling%20Projectors%20PGC45X.pdf
Once removed from the unit, see if the lamp has any bubbles or crystallization. The crystallization makes the mirror in the lamp look muddled, rather than crisply reflecting light.
could be getting too hot (fan malfunction or dirty), lamp (also hot from dust), or a power problem. so, clean it out and listen for odd noises. if it still does that, you might need to replace the lamp ballast.
I sent mine in. They changed the bulb and cleaned the unit. The one thing they did suggest that seemed helpful was to upgrade the firmware. They did this as part of the service. That may be your problem, but I don't know that the firmware is upgradable. Yes indeed, they do charge an outrageous price!! I went through Sharp because they would guarantee the work, and I didn't want to buy two bulbs.
